Safety Razors

The blades are cheap enough. They are stainless, and come in standard packaging with the push to slide out dispenser. These are 5 for $1. I used my SuperSpeed to shave with, along with my standard prep of hair conditioner, hot shower, and a towel soak for two minutes. I've shaved with this blade for four days, two passes each shave, I'm ready to change the blade out. Maybe I"m expecting too much for the price, but I'd like to change out on the same day every week. I do admit however, that...

Some background: I admit I wasn't sure what to expect when I loaded up my HD with a Sputnik blade from Mother Russia. I'd read varying reviews on the internet. Some said Sputniks are great and others considered them cheap and ineffective. I'm going on record to say that, for me, these little blades are a treat. For comparison, I have dark, coarse facial hair and I usually use an HD/Derby Extra combo for consistently good results. I've also used Feathers, Crystals, Merkurs, Sharps, Astras...

Price Since the Star is not considered a collectors item, one can find great prices. I paid $3.95 for mine! Since production of this razor was lower than the similar Tech, some sellers on EBay think it should deserve a premium price due to its rarity. Avoid those sellers. Quality The quality of this razor is every bit as good as a similar year Tech. These razors were made to be cheap and durable, but the build quality is very good. One problem that I have with this razor and the...

In my zeal to keep up with the Jones'es I purchased this one on ebay for $60 (ouch) to add to my collection. It was the best one i could find not over $100 in over a weeks of searching. Having never used one and after hearing such good things about them, it's arrival was highly anticipated. When it came I marveled at how such an antique could be in such good shape after what appeared to have been heavy use. Then came the test by fire. Loaded with a fresh derby and used with some Trumpers...

Walgreens Double Edge Stainless Steel Blades 10.0 ea. Price $5.49 I picked these DE Blades from Walgreens when my new razor came in. I wasn't so sure about the Walgreens brand but it's all they had. I was very pleased with the quality. I have nothing to compare these blades to, but for my first shave with a DE razor I wasn't disappointed. The blades were very smooth on my face and im still using the same blade after a week with the same results. Walgreens is very proud of these blades...
These are not the Swedish Gillette blades. I believe these are made by Procter and Gamble in the UK. they are available in pretty much any local pharmacy (except Boots) at around £1 for 5 blades. They come in the standard Gillette dispenser, which allows easy access without any wrappers, and a place to store the used blades underneith the dispenser. These blades are great, and in fact, I actually prefer these to Swedish Gs. They are quite smooth, and sharp. A little like Derby blades...

I tested these blades straight after using Merkur blades for a month. And I must say, these are way smoother and more forgiving. Price: the cheapest around  Quality: performs very well for the first two time, but looses sharpness afterwards Sharpness: almost as sharp as the Merkur blades, but way smoother and forgiving - no nicks or irritation for the first two shaves Longevity: as mentioned before, the good performance lasts for two shaves, after the third shave minor...
I saw this advertised on ebay as "GILLETTE TECH. Exact replica: Razor LUX" with the low, low, low buy it now price of 6.75. Bought it on a whim. The handle looked nice. I figured that even if it was crappy, I could use the handle and re-purpose one of my old Gillette Tech travel razors into a more normal razor. The vendor picked up a 150 from Poland. Received it tightly wrapped in newspaper. First observation is that the handle is very well made. (and yes, it nicely fits the head of...
I found this one at my local discount pharmacy when I went to buy some blades. It's made in Egypt! The have a website: http://www.razorslord.com/Packages/LP1822.asp The razor is a bit top-heavy because the blade holder is heavier than the long aluminum crosshatched handle (4 inches long). This is a nice product for the price. Not bad for a cheapo blister pack sold item. Purchased at Navarro Discount Pharmacy in Miami, Florida USA---$3.99!!! Buy it! Also be sure to check out...
As a new member who has been gleefully gleaning this site for a few months before joining, I felt a contribution was in order. I’d like to share my latest acquisition, the APOLLO. This is a leather cased DE razor designed for travelling. I don’t know it’s actual age but it looks from the style and design around circa 1930-40. I purchased the set on Ebay for a ridiculous price considering that it is immaculate and looks completely unused. While I initially hesitated to deflower it, I brought...

I was visiting in-laws recently and ran across these in the Family Dollary store. Thery were $1 for a 5-pack. I figured that I couldn't go wrong for a dollar; I was right! The thing that caught my eye was the small "Made in Israel" sticker on the back of the pack. A closer examination showed an American Safety Razor trademark. The blades have nothing on them except the dispense direction arrows. Today, I had my fourth shave with the first blade. I find the blade to be sharp and smooth. I...
Mardor Antique Frame Safety Razor A French turn-of-the-century frame safety razor The usual weekend lure of the flea market brought me to town this last Friday and as I was snuffling about at one of the stalls I spied this little boxed safety razor set. But this wasn’t a case of love at first sight. I looked it over and started to laugh about it to myself. This just seemed too impossible to believe: a safety razor that used straight razor blades. After a thorough...

I recently purchased a new Parker 22-R gunmetal finish TTO DE safety razor. The razor seems well-made and attractive, but how does it shave? Read on! The razor is quite heavy, 2.5 ounces. It has an attractive finish, and, being a TTO, was quite easy to load. The grooves on the handle provided an excellent grip while shaving. The vinyl travel case that came with the razor was also quite handy. Now for the real question: how was the shave? Frankly, this razor shaves like a bush-hog...like...

A nice, small rzor for travel, or even everyday use. The handle is short; about 2.5-3", I'd say, and breaks apart (unscrews) into two seperate pieces. The head, like most (all?) Merkurs screws off and seperates into two. A compact storage case is included, and of decent quality. This razor seems to me to be pretty much the same as my Merkur Long Classic, save for the shortened break-apart handle. It seems to sahve about the same, which is to say that this is a quality razor but...
So far these blades seem really smooth for me. I could use these everyday and not look back. They're not the cheapest blades I've used, but I do get a decent shave.

These are the blades that come in the basic WestCoastShaving sampler pack. I was surprised nobody else has reviewed them. Bear with me, as this is my first review that I have started. As a disclaimer, the only other blade I have used is the Merkur. I use them in a Merkur Classic. I just loaded this one up this morning and used it with my C&E Nomad sc. To start off with, I have been having some trouble getting a good lather with the Nomad, so the first pass was not that good, and I will have...

I have both all metal D/E razors and the Feather Popular which is composed of both metal and plastic. I kept going back to the Feather and now use it exclusively. The general consensus is that the quality is poor. I feel that "quality" is a relative term. You can not really compare this particular razor to all metal razors because it is not all metal. For what it is, being both plastic and metal, it feels like and looks like it is well manufactured. The base of the head is plastic and...
I use this razor now and again, especially if I've been a little too aggressive with the previous day's shave and want something easy and gentle on my face. I know a lot of people use the Mach 3 as their "fall back" razor when they just want a quick shave, but I think the Quattro Titanium is much better. Pros: Easy to use. Quick shaves. Low irritation. Widely available. Cheaper than the Fusion. Cons: Hard to get a BBS shave. You won't want to do multiple passes. It's a multi-bladed...

For evaluation purposes, I tried these blades with Merkur HD, Merkur LH, and Merkur Slant Bar razors. Throughout testing, I rotated between various high-end creams and soaps and also used 4 different brushes (Rooney, Shavemac, & 2 different Simpson’s). All products and equipment used are items that I am highly familiar/experienced with and items that deliver consistently excellent results. As a bit of background on the blades I’ve used, for a brief time I served as a blade tester for an...

Price: the cheapest retail blade that I know of; you can spend less but you'll have to buy blades by the hundreds. Quality: the blades all looked very good, the finish level is on par with much more expensive blades and much better than the crappy look of some other popular brands. Having used only one blade, I can't really comment on consistency of performance across different blades or packages. Sharpness: at least as sharp, and maybe a little sharper, than a Swedish G. I have tried most...
