Safety Razors

I saw these blades a few weeks ago and was put off from buying them because of the price - 'Surely something that cheap can't be very good' I thought. Well, I was visiting the same shop (Wilkinsons supermarket, UK) and saw them again. This time I was definately going home with a pack (and a spare pack to distribute to B&B members), and not letting my feeling rule my head. Besides, I had to be the 'guinea pig' to try them as noone else had yet reviewed them. So, first glance, they look OK -...
I bought this because I was too impatient to wait for the HD to come back into stock and I wanted a butterfly razor (my dad had one I used to play with as a child). For £10 including P&P I thought this was quite reasonable. When it arrived it looked a little more worn than I expected from the pics, but considering it must be 50 years old it's in great shape. British-made and really solidly constructed, it's also surprisingly heavy--only 0.15 oz less than the Merkur, despite being much...

Price: I picked this up for $18 at Cotton Blossom Crafts. That seemed like a good price to me for my first DE razor. Quality: For the price, I find this razor to be a good starter razor. It feels well built and delivers a decent shave once you learn its personality. User Friendly: As a new DE razor user, I had no problems using this razor. Once I realized that this razor is not aggressive, it was easier to concentrate on getting my technique down. The tame nature of the razor could...

I was fortunate enough to be on the Tesco train for tryout of these blades. Ron (Guenron) was kind enough to coordinate the train and I was first on the schedule for the westbound train. So far in my DE experiences, I have tried Derby, Swede Gillette, Merkur, and Israeli Personna (my favorite up to now) blades. I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the Tesco (being a generic supermarket type of blade) when I loaded it up in my Merkur HD and cranked up some mantic superlather (Nancy Boy cream...

First of all, I can't believe I'm the first to review these... I'm calling these "Derby's Twin" because for me thats how they act. However, I get a slightly less irrritating shave on the first shave of the blade with the Derbys. To date, I've shaved with American Personnas, Merkurs, Derbys, these, and Swedish Gillettes. Price: The price is right on ebay, about 15 cents US a piece when bought in bulk. I'm giving them a 9 because I feel local access to US personnas at wal-mart for...
The PL-510 from Dorco is an all plastic system. Constructed exactly like a regular metal safety razor. Uses the screw on system. Very cheap as I got it for only SGD2.00 to wean myself off expensive twin blade cartridges. It is plastic and so it is very light. I applied a little more pressure than I would with a standard metal constuct type which I used long ago. However the sharp Dorco DE razors are good. So the pressure applied was less than using an all plastic twin blade system.

 Hi guys, I'm a real 'newbie' to this Fantastic, Informative website. I am also new to the Double edge safety razor scene. I have wet shaved for as long as I needed to shave, but only now have I mustered the courage to try a DE razor. Two things made me come to my decision, 1. cartidge blade prices seem to be flying through the roof, and DE blades seem to be very cheap in comparison. 2ndly. I have always been curious of how a DE razor would feel when shaving and how it would compare...
The following is a review from my wife, Mrs. letterk. ------------------------------ Price: I received two Edwin Jagger razors from The English Shaving Company. The first one is the Edwin Jagger Ladies Lilac Gillette® Mach3® razor is priced at about $85 plus shipping with today’s exchange rates. The second razor is the Edwin Jagger Ladies Green Gillette® Mach3® razor going for about $55. Quality: The quality of both of these razors is excellent. The plastic is smooth and the chrome...
A short while back, my good friend Rene (SSLStudio) sent me a 5-Pack of Sharp razor blades. It regrettably took me longer than I had intended to test them and sadly took even longer to get a review put together. With my sincerest apologies to Rene for the delay, here are my thoughts… Price – The only way I currently know how to get hands on these bad boys is to order them from Rene. Luckily, Rene’s prices are exceptional. Sharpness – While these aren’t the sharpest blades on the...
OK, much has been said about the Nationwide Campus (NWC) injector. Time to get to the facts. Here are the contestants: Thew NWC razor is on the right, and my old friend the Schick injector is on the left. I am not much of a razor guru, so I am not sure which Schick type this is, but I am sure someone will chime in on the discussion thread. A few words of background. I am not a huge Injector fan. I keep one around for travel, and the occasional change of pace, but I find that the...

This razor is very similar to the famed Merkur HD (34). According to other posts here, the heads are identical. A notable difference is that the handle is longer and more slender, which was why I choose it. The razor has a nice, high quality feel. It has got a good weight, and as soon as you pick it up, you realise that this razor is built to last. At 19£ (Gentleman's Shop), this is the cheapest DE razor I have seen, and worth every pound, penny etc  The grip is good, it will...

First of all I have only tried the following blades,Italian Gillette (s..t),Derby extra (love em) and the object of this review Dorco so my judgement will be in comparison to the Derby: DOngyang Razor COmpany has chosen the wrong letters to create their brand name,at least for the english speaking markets. But if despite the unappealing brand name you try them you'll be heading for a pleasant surprise. The packaging is just as cheap as possible, all cardboard and paper So much for...
This is the razor I'm learning on. I acquired one in and old junk drawer in my house. I called my mother and come to find out that it used to be my grandfather's travel razor before he passed away. Sentimetality paired with a desire to learn wetshaving made me give this a go. Looking at the razor, it isn't much. It came in a flimsy gold plastic case with a broken snap. It is incredibly lightweight and the handle feels as though it is aluminum. Blade changes are easy to figure out, but...
Price: Can't be beat. Picked mine up from Nashville Knife Shop for $25. Perfect for the budget-minded first-timer. Quality: No complaints at all. Silo mechanism is super smooth, and the razor feels solid in your hand, but not at the expence of being chunky or too heavy. User Friendly: I can't imagine a more user-friendly razor. The Parker is sized just right for those of us who were used to Mach 3-sized razors before -- its longer handle and lighter weight make wetshaving an easy...

This is my favorite razor..I have 4 and 2 Fat Boys. I like the weight and balance of this razor. It does give that head heavy feeling that allows you to let the razor do the shaving without pressure. The handle length is just right not too long not too short. This razor is of the same quality as it's older brother, it is extremely well made and they can be found easily. They are very affordable, you can find them between $10 to $20. And as low as $1.00!!!! I did. I like the fact that I can...

Truly wretched for shaving. Turns my Gem Micromatic (twist to open/tapered fob) into an instrument of torture. :cursing: Excellent for scraping paint.

General Notes It's the well-known Gillette model made between 1948-50. Just like the 1947 before it, the first post-war model of razor put out by Gillette, it carries no date code, and is only distinguished from the 1947 model by the presence of a notch in the bar to facilitate easy blade loading. Physical details It's a traditional TTO model. Mine came to me pretty dirty, but with some boiling water/vinegar, toothbrush and dish soap, polish and mineral oil bath, and this thing is good as...

Dirt cheap egyptian blade bought on E-bay, just about $25 for 200 blades. To start with the packaging, a simple no-fancy paperbox, gives a cheap inpression. The blades are single packed in both classic "foil-paper" and in a paper-envelope, this seem to protect the blade much better than the outer box. Thing is that the company that makes Lord blades from the beginning was a Wilkinson factory, so the blade itself reminds of the Wilkinson blade. Its a nice blade, a tad rough, again just...

Nice handle on this razor ..., the old handles are quite often solid and quite hefty. The old style doesn't really work with modern thin DE blades, but shimming the razor helps ..., although to be truthful only the NEW style comb head works properly with modern blades. Regards John My ratings apply to all the old style combs - one for the collector.

Avoid the Aluminium handle version - the aesthetics suck & the shave quality suffers.
