Shaving Soaps (Reviews)

Yet again, mama bear doesn't cease to amaze me. My first purchase from mama bear was very enjoyable. But as with all noobies, selecting for the right soap was a bit of a challenge. Not an issue with this soap. It smelled GREAT when I first opened it. And the shave didn't fail me a bit. My only gripe with this particular soap, is I wished it was a little bit stronger in the scent department. Although the scent is very enjoyable, it doesn't seem to last very long. Moisturization definately...
This review concerns the Casablanca shave stick by QED Essentials. Gentlemen, I have had the pleasure of using QED products for number of years now. They have always given performance and user experience all out of proportion to cost. This Casablanca shave stick only heightens and reinforces that opinion. This stick is part of what Charles calls his "American Experience Collection". I was first introduced to it as a bath soap from that line. Lets start with the scent. Bergamot...
Price:I don't know the price, because I received the soap (a refill) as a gift from Atkinsons of Vancouver. That's why I gave it 0. I put the soap in a 3" ramekin and it fit fine. No need to buy the expensive bowl. Quality:It's right up there with the other high-end British soaps that I've used. Scent:The scent is light and clean. It is not overpowering and it will not interfere with cologne. Lather: The lather is very rich and creamy. It stays moist throughout my entire 3-pass shave...
Got this in a trade and thought I would lather it up. The soap is glycerine-based. But the suds you get from it are hard to keep in a lather. There is still some that remains on your skin, but it does vanish too quickly for my liking. The main ingredients are camphor, cloves, and eucalyptus. Which gave me a persistent low level burn during the shave. I have never been so happy to finish an ATG pass and wipe off the lather. I don't consider myself to have sensitive skin. I imagine if...
When Seth came-up with two extra shave sticks of QED Bathtub Gin, he sold them on the condition that the buyer would write a review of the product. So, without further ado, here are my findings: Scent: In Bathtub Gin, Charles has blended essential oils (EO) of juniper berries, lemon, and lime in a balance which seems to switch back-and-forth between lemon and lime as the predominant scent, with the aroma of juniper berries always present just below those of the other two. I like that, and...
I went to France a few weeks ago and bought that soap. Well I must admit It's a great find. Osma is a specialist in alum shaving product (alum stone, styptic pencil etc) so when I discovered that a shaving soap with alum in it is made by Osma, I was a bit curious to try it. Price : 11 Eur for a nice box + a 100 Gr soap, It's ok The scent is very nice : a bit floral and not too strong Lather is also good for a soap but what is really surprising is that it's really soothe razor burn! Well you...
Penhaligon English Fern Shave Soap First things first… Cost: This is an expensive soap. This is offset to some extent by the fact it is a triple-milled soap so it will last a long time Latherability: I used a Chubby #1 for this review. The soap makes a very thick luxuriant lather with very little effort. The lather has the consistency of heavy whipped cream and is not in the least airy. Cushion: It is tallow based soap and that makes for an extremely slick and protective coating...

I am really surprised that no one has sat down to write a review of this product yet. Perhaps because it's so well known to most of the members there really is no reason for review. But, here goes..... I don't think I need to talk about the price extensively as it's generally agreed upon that Col. Conk is a great value at $3.50 a puck. Quality...all the Conk soaps I've had have been of great quality, and perform well above their price. I love the Amber scent. I like Bayrum and...
I have accepted the honor of reviewing the new soap from Mama Bear called the Diogenes Club group buy. While not long in the shaving world, I am the sort of person who has been able to track my mother-in-laws whereabouts strickly through scent so i feel somewhat qualified :) Please excuse any stumbling in terminology and floundering in adjectives. Smells are hard to explain! Disqualifiers aside, lets begin. I have not been exposed to the original soap this is supposed to match so I can make...
Saint Charles Shave has introduced a limited-edition blend of four first-thing-in-the-morning scents for the early-rising gourmand wetshaver: Mocha Creme shaving soap. My two tubs arrived in Wednesday's mail, and I used it this morning; here's my take: Scent: Although any one of the individual scents could easily overpower the others, SCS has done a great job and managed to strike a balance between them. Rather than giving equal weight to each one, the "balance point" (to my nose) is...

This soap was a real disappointment to me. I like the idea of mass produced shaving soaps, like Williams or Van der Hagen/Surrey & Tabac, among a handful of others, because it legitimizes my particular insanity (I mean, heck, if they sell shaving soap at Walgreens, can I be all that crazy?). Master is not sold in stores, as far as I know, but is distributed to barbers and other professionals through barber supply and beauty stores and websites. Among the venerable Master Chemical...
If you see this soap available, don't walk, run! Simply put, it is awful. Where to begin? Let's start with the price. It was approximately $4 for the puck. While Col. Conk is worth every penny of the $3.50, Pendergrass Bay is one example of getting what you pay for. I would even avoid free samples of this stuff. The quality is awful, and that could even be inferred from the third-rate packaging. When I first got these in the mail they actually did smell like sandalwood, but...

I'm one of those people who has purchased about 9 soaps and 7 creams. From Proraso to "boutique" names featured here on B&B, I've tried most of the names. However, to my shocking surprise, each time I come back to Conk's almond, I get a smooth and comfortable shave. Not the lime. Not the glycerine. Only the almond. Great shave to rival the higher priced "names" you see floating around. And you can't be the price for a puck.
Well, as I stated in my synopsis, the cost-value of a soap that costs $55 (USD), note I paid 7000円 which roughly equates to the $55 price tag, is constantly on your mind when purchasing and thereafter using such a comparably costly product. I put it to use a couple of days after purchasing it from Barney's New York here in Tokyo. I wanted to give it a full week of my attention before coming to any conclusions. Now my 2 cents worth, or maybe it is 55 dollars worth of an opinion...
If you like honeysuckle then you'll love this! I love the smell of it in the wild and here I was not dissapointed. The price for me here in England isn't bad, although the p&p is around the same price as the product. What the heck, it's only money! :001_smile Right, here we go! This is GREAT! I mean great! Once water hits this it's heavenly! The smell remains a long time after and that for me is nice. Putting the scent aside for a moment ( ) the lather is one of the best I...
I have been shaving with a combo of cream/soap for awhile and haven't tried just using a soap alone lately. The other day, I had a two day growth and didn't need a shower, so I wetted down and hot toweled the beard and selected Susie's Tea Tree soap, which I've been meaning to try. Got the Moss warmed up along with my huge soup bowl mug. Put the puck in the mug along with a little hot water, grabbed the Shavemac 32mm and went to town whipping up some lather. After about 20 turns, my...

When I first got this soap, I lathered it up I was literally scared to shave with it. Really airy/frothy lather and a significant lack of lather lifespan made me worry about getting a good shave. But I figured I'd at least try it. Lathered up the face once, then had to relather b/c most of the first lather I put on disappeared. So after lathering...and relathering, I started to shave. Picked up my trusty HD and cringed w/the expectation of hair being pulled and razor skipping. Made the...
This review concerns the Blenheim Bouquet shave soap from Penhaligon's. I used it again a few mornings ago and nothing has changed. Still dead reliable, oozes class, and only re-affirms my opinion that Penhaligon's is the class of the British perfume houses. I've added rating numbers above to keep in line with review procedures. The only categories lower than a 9 are price and moistruising. It is pricey, though as I've stated I would buy it again. These triple milled soaps seemingly last...
I really like this soap. It lathers nicely, and has a hint of bay rum scent. The bar is a bit larger than my Burma-Shave mug, but a few strokes with my knife over the mug, and it fit quite nicely, with no loss of product. The cologne is quite refreshing, and the spicy bay rum scent invigorating. I visited their webstore, and neither is listed. I hope it is still available. I've emailed the company, and am awaiting a reply. http://www.burtsbees.com
