This review is for la Ciagale aloe vera shave soap. This is a rather new brand of shave soap that is being imported by Phil at Bullgoose Shaving. The manufacturer is Savonnerie La Cigale of France. I believe the company as it exists has been around since 2006. However, if you watch the video posted in the Bullgoose forum about this product it is pretty clear the owners bought an existing manufacturing company. At least that is my take after watching. Suffice it to say all they do is make...

Dr Squatch's Shave Bar is a unique smelling soap with a great masculine scent of clay, mint and a very nice citrus hint at the end that stays with you after the shave. During the time of this shave I had two weeks facial hair growth, a new Persona blade in a Phoenix DOC Safety Razor. I do have to say at the beginning using this soap while blooming it I was almost about to give up, there is a certain way that this soap needs to be lathered. If you fail to lather it in the way that it is...

The smoky smell of top quality Swedish Pine Tar is infused with citrus to create a scent that is truly one of a kind. Dark soap but lathers white and will not stain.
This is a "croap," which is a combination cream/soap like Cella. It lathers easily in a mug. The container that holds this 4.4 oz. puck is not big enough for me. I added a photo comparing this soap (out of the container) size-wise with Mama Bear's (top); an Arko tub (left); and Williams (right). The price is $12.99 ($3.25/oz.) so it is medium-priced. It has a milder scent than Williams, but it is more natural and feels fresh during the lathering process. I shaved twice: once...

This is the first shaving soap this manufacturer produced. This is a soft soap more like a cream in the Italian tradition. It has an excellent scent and gives good protection. The scent goes away as you use up the soap, but lathers well to the very end. It works well for face or bowl lathering. The only downside is price ($25.60) and it is sensitive to the amount of water used. With the right amount of water it produces an excellent result.

As written on the tub: Named after one of the largest sandlewood producers in Western Australia. This vegetable-based soap has the soft, sensual, strong woodsy base note that men, and women, adore.

Made in Italy, this soap is rather old school, which isn't necessarily bad. The scent is spicy and reminds the user of traditional scents one found in the old days of shaving. The soap lathers nicely and the resulting shave is close. The one caveat, and to this user it is a big one, is that there doesn't seem to be much of a lubricant buffer, so the shave does result in some "weepers" and reddened skin. Not a bad choice, but there are so many alternatives. By the numbers...

This is a very interesting soap- either you'll like it a lot or wonder why anyone would purchase it. Which, by the way, you can't, since it's sold out. The scent is vey unusual- i'd describe it as vegetal, with a hint of flowers. The soap is semi soft, and the lather is on the scant side, which isn't all bad, since the shave it enables is rather close. But there is no "buffer" of fat, since the product contains only vegetable oil. I liked it, but the prices on these soaps are on...
The Blades Grim Gold Luxury Shaving Soap- Reaper $14.99- Other fragrances include Sinimint and Scythe. Made in the USA. This product is very interesting. Let’s start with the packaging, which is a mixed bag. Not really impressed with the logo, although I understand the need to create a brand- this company’s heart lies with the creation of cold steel straight edged blades. The tin is high quality, with a nice gold sheen. I liked the idea that there are two options to the lid- screw top...

From original 1950s packaging: This soap possesses all the qualities most desirable for shaving purposes. It yields an absorbent lasting lather which remains moist until removed. It is economical and best for barber's use.

A very highly scented English made tallow based shaving soap. One may purchase the rather pricy wooden shaving bowl to which these cakes fit nicely, or simply use your own bowl if large enough. I found the lather quite good, although did dry a bit after application leading to a few small tugs. I might want to use more water and less lather. The scent is astounding with pine and patchouli, yet it really doesn't linger after the shave.
