Skunky Clubman?

I bought a bottle of Clubman and when I opened it at home, I noticed a bit of skunkiness. I looked at the label and it said 33% more in honor of their 200th anniversary, 1810-2010. So this bottle had been sitting on the shelf at Walgreens for 2 years. The sample I got from Garry's doesn't seem to have this skunk and seems to generally smell a little nicer. Did I get a spoiled bottle?

I honestly think Pinaud uses cheap plastic that off-gasses (or whatever it's called) and makes it smell funky. Put it in a glass container for a few days and I bet it smells better.

Thanks for the advice! I had thought it could be something like that as well. Maybe I'll see if I can find an old clubman glass bottle somewhere.

Depending on the conditions it was stored in (sunlight and high temps can spoil just about any frag), it might be permanent. For your sake, I hope not!

Yeah, but it was only $6. Unfortunately now I'm feeling paranoid about trying to find a local source for Clubman. Is it all old spoiled stock around here?

I've noticed the same exact thing from Clubman, but only while it's in the bottle. Once applied to the face I get no trace of the skunk. A lot of aftershaves and colognes smell odd or different in the bottle.

My suggestion: Omaha is a prety big town. I'll bet if you look around you'll find a local barber supply/beautician supply company. they usually stock most Pinaud products, as well as other classics. More turnover = fresher stock, and more choices to boot! Good luck and keep us posted.

My smaller bottle (the "33% more free", for some reason they still have it on the label as the Walgreen's I got it from had just ordered it) had the skunkiness, I put it in a glass bottle overnight and it was gone the next day. For some reason the 12.5oz bottle never gets skunky. Yet.

I had a bottle of Clubman Private Reserve that had a funny scent to it, and the color was off too. The new bottle I have is much better. I think all of Pinauds improve by transferring the juice to a glass bottle.

Hahaha, that's classic!

OK, there is this one brand of hot sauce at the supermarket that has three different flavors, and they have wood caps. Man, I cannot remember the name of the sauce, but it's pretty common (seen in restaurants, too).

One cap is plain wood, one is reddish, one is green.

Dig this:

- plain wood: Clubman

- reddish: Special Reserve (or VIBR)

- green: Veg (or Lime Sec)

Genius I tellya, GENIUS!

P.S. CHOLULA!!!

Looks like you can get bottles for FOUR types of Pinaud!
