What's new

Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

The only time I think I've ever been excited about finding a cart razor handle. :001_tongu The gent had fifty modern Gillette carts and Schicks and throw in another 12 almost new mid seventies electric razors. I was striking out. Found some DE blades and a barbershop brush I passed on. Ten boxes later nothing. Then I found this modest razor among them. Luckily he had some sensor carts so I tried them and they fit! Heavy handle too. Love the bronze patina on it and the designs evoke the 20's.
An old Burma jingle
I've read
These signs
Since just a kid
Now that I shave
I'm glad I did

oh ... by the way, also today, I received my Gillette SS from replate (nickel/chrome) by Krona Kruiser :thumbup1:

Don't worry, Krona Kruiser knows what he's doing. What he's got from me, was a VERY vintage SS with a LOT of patina  :

I scored a gillette gold tech today at a antique store for 3 bucks. It is in working condition but the plating has worn a bit. No rust and i cleaned the tarnish off of it. Not too bad for 3 bucks.

Got this and one more. Two small cracks in the lower handle. I paid to much $29.00. I did not purchase a Stahly that was not working. They wanted 35.00 for it.

Last week I found a Fat Boy and a Diplomat in some of my grandad's junk. The Fat Boy is in pretty good shape but the Diplomat is kinda rough but not too bad. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

This is the razorock black hammer. Bad pic but it is perfect in person and shaved great

Found my first Knack in the wild today. I know it isn't that old, 1972, but it needed very little cleaning to look like this.

Found a couple oldies in the wild. Cleaned up well, but what about "polish"? Is the "old" style brass through and through and therefore no problem with polishing? How to make the "New" shine without the full copper effect?

The NEW looks like it might be out of the Red & Black (1934?) kit. It's hard to tell without a good look at the shoulder on the handle.

Now I know I can trust this place even more that I went out on a limb and decided to try the 'Mall' forum. Very special thanks to Daedpa for this one, now not only has this place provided much valuable information and such, but I've gained a Tech as well. Also, I've discovered this 'blade exchange' thing, have a few sent out for trade and donated a few to keep it going. Cheers all...

I don't have a clue, but here is a better pic. I would appreciate any info someone might offer.

Yep. That handle was used on the R&B (1934?) kit, and probably others. You can identify it by the rounded shoulder and the lack of knurling immediately below. Had the handle had a flat shoulder it would have belonged to the R&B DeLuxe (1934)kit. Check mr-razor here:

That handle isn't quite as common (but it's not rare either) as the one with the knurling right up to the shoulder.

I got my Eclipse Red Ring Razor in the mail today. It is in outstanding shape. Almost all of the paint is still on the handle groove and the handle magnet. The original leather travel case it came with needs to have the stitching on one side repaired but that is it. Looking forward to using it this week. It is one of the first adjustable razors made I think.
