I know it's an older thread but I just found it. I have an Omega boar brush that I'm not happy with and I'm going to give this method a try. Many thanks for the idea @mawashi!

OK, I just tried the Mawashi boar busting method..... ALL HAIL MAWASHI!!

I really should have taken before and after pics because this method works folks! I took the brush into the shower and lathered it up on a bar of Dr Squatch bay rum and used it like a shower brush as per instructions and it made a huge difference in the brush. It has mushroomed and softened considerably in the course of one shower.

Very impressive! I have it sitting ready with a puck of Mama Bear's barbershoppe shave soap for in the morning.
