At B&B members' prompting, I've decided to give the brush a try.
I found an old Ever-Ready brush at a garage sale and sterilized it for use. Pretty sure it's boar instead of badger, which seems fine by me as I imagine softer bristles being harder to work up a lather.
All is working out ok, nice shave, but less than pleasant feeling afterwards.
The problem, I am certain, is the soap. Our Wal-Mart has stopped carrying any kind of shaving soap, so I picked up some Williams at the drug store. I have not heard one good word about it here, and I believe I now know why. It seems to have sucked some of the vital oils out of my skin, a problem I never had with canned goo.
I am not in the habit of using any balms, as I suffer no irritation afterwards. What would you suggest as a new soap to try? Perhaps something with aloe in it?
