Proraso Green vs Taylor's Peppermint 1/2-1/2 shave

Using a DE razor both Proraso and TOBS are just acceptable. Neither stacks up for me with a straight razor. My favorite Italian is Cella Almond (red), which is a tallow soap. I haven't tried TOBS Peppermint, but I assume it is like their other offerings, performance wise. But, people are different and what works for one doesn't for another and that is why we have variety.

I have used both Proraso Green and TOBS Peppermint extensively. IMHO, the TOBS Peppermint is superior to Proraso Green in every respect. The slickness, the ability to whip up a good lather, and the scent are all much better with TOBS Peppermint. I'll continue to use the rest of the Proraso Green that I have only because I hate to throw our product, but that will be the last of it.
I loved the peppermint but the coconut was not good.

I used alum blocks(potassium alum, a mineral salt) as deodorant long before I ever though of using it for shaving. It's astringent, antibacterial and antiseptic, and it stops bleeding from small cuts and scrapes very well. How one uses it, now there is where it can be overdone. I found out in underarm use that rubbing it against the skin directly isn't such a good idea as I'd get a rash from too much of it. Make sure both the alum and skin are wet, and gently touch it around the skin, a little, then use my wet hands to spread it around. Or just rub a little on my hands, then rub my hands on the armpits. Every video I've seen of people rubbing alum directly all over their face makes me cringe. It is a mineral salt after all on open pores ! I only it place on a cut and hold it for a some seconds, otherwise when I do use it, I rub a little on my wet hands, and then my hands lightly on my face. What this does is remove any soapy residue leftover. Then a quick rinse and use whatever you like on your face after that. I don't take any sensations as a "sign" of a shave quality or not, totally meaningless.

I'm suprised about the shaving cream test as I find Proraso Green really lacking in moisturizing qualities against the skin. Love the scent though !
