I-Phone 5 or Galaxy S3 ?

I just received an e-mail from work that says the new phone choices are here. I have until the end of business on Monday to make a decision on a I-Phone 5 or Galaxy S3. I have looked at the reviews and it looks like it is almost a draw as far as I can tell. I have had an I-phone for personal use for several years which I like and my wife tested the S3 for a work application. I am looking for input from real users and if you have had experience with both in a work application , I would like some opinions.

If you like the iOS ecosystem and Apples way of running things for for the iphone, if you like Android and Googles way of running things for the samsung. I personally prefer the Android and the freedom I have to change what I want with it. One thing I really like is that with the Miro SD slot I can expand my memory in my phone so I'm not stuck with whatever amount I decided to pick when I got the phone.

I'm an iPhone fan and am currently using the iPhone 5 for work and personal use. We run Lotus Notes (groan) and it integrates nicely into Apple Mail. This isn't nearly as seamless on Android. I had a Motorola Droid 2 Global as my last phone and just didn't find it as streamlined. Sure, it offers more configuration ability, but there was really little point to all of that for me. I just need it to work. Apple Numbers works quite well to view and edit (in a basic way) Excel spreadsheets.

IMO there are two types of smart phones: iPhone and iPhone wanna be.

This is also how I feel about it. My son and I got phones about the same time (about a year ago), I got the iPhone 4s and he got the Galaxy S3. His has been in the shop for repairs and/or replacement at least twice now. My iPhone has not needed any maintenance at all.

So based purely on robustness of the device and the OS I'm a big iPhone fan. However, if this is a company phone and they are taking care of all the bills I would choose based on which OS you prefer, as that will make you the happiest over the long haul.

Since you have experience with the iPhone already, what is your number one complaint AND will it be resolved if you get the S3? What is your number one favorite feature AND will it be eliminated if you get the S3?

I wish I had more experience with the S3 to offer more help on that choice. Of the ones that I have played with, I think they are pretty powerful and very feature rich. The camera is just as awesome as the iPhone and the display is a little bigger. The S3 is a bit too big and slippery for my hands and pockets, but I am also just used to the iPhone and before that I had a Palm Pre which was even slightly smaller.

I think they're both very good phones. I choose an iPhone because the form factor is 33% smaller and 19% lighter.

If most of your friends and family are on iPhone, and go with that. The integration of iMessage and photo sharing doesn't work well with non-iphones. If you like to fidget and fiddle with settings until everything is perfectly customized to your liking, and get the android.

I'm a fan of Apple and I have been for years so my vote is for iPhone. I have tried Android off and on and I have to say it has become much better in the past year. For me, however, the Apple ecosystem works really well. I guess it depends what you use. If you are a windows and google fan, then Android may work better for you.

I have one of those Windows OS phones with the live tiles.

Stay away from it.

Really wish I had just opted to try an iPhone when I had my chance with the upgrade.

I have an iPhone 3 for personal use (yes, about time to upgrade) and a Samsung Galaxy S2 from work. FWIW I much prefer my iPhone over the Galaxy. My next personal phone will certainly be an iPhone 5.

The Galaxy is fine, but IMO it performs kind of like a want to be iPhone. Good, but just not quite as polished or well thought out.

One of the main reasons I like my droid is for its removable battery. When I bought my phone it came with a spare battery, and I bought a separate battery charger that also came with a spare battery. I keep all 3 batteries charged. When my phone dies, I just pop my dead battery in the charger, put a fresh one in my phone and I am good to go! This also gives me the option to bring the spare batteries with me for extended trips.

I will never buy a phone that has a non-removable battery. IMO it is just too great of an advantage.

If a non-removable battery doesn't bother you, then I think you should just try an iPhone and Droid for a day each. That will tell you which one you want to live with. I am really in tune with PCs and have groaned at using macs ever since I was an adolescent so the choice was easy for me. My Dad was the exact opposite. He absolutely loves iPhones.

To each their own, but make sure you love it! :thumbup1:

I use my GS3 for work and personal use and it's a pretty good phone. Plus it has an sd card slot and a removable battery if you're looking for those features. The Iphone is a fine phone as well but is limited by Apple's walled off ecosystem. Icloud is a nice feature for backing up all your information and the Itunes store does have an edge as far as the number of apps, but the Play store is not far behind.

Whichever one you choose you can't go wrong. But I'm a bit biased since I was a former Iphone user and switched to Android a couple years back.

Another former Iphone user here too, and was let down with the lack of advancement with what Apple has brought to the market recently. I use a Samsung Galaxy Note and it is superb! Being handcuffed to Itunes was annoying for me and love being able to tinker with MY OWN phone sold me. I was too afraid of the rumored instability of "jailbreaking" my Iphone and never did it. My Samsung has an incredibly fast processor and has been solid as a rock since the day I first powered it up. After all, Samsung used to produce Apples chips too. It basically comes down to do you want to drive a Ford or a Chevy? Choices.

I have Iphone 5, my first Iphone, and have had nothing but problems with it. The shutter freezes when taking pictures, it says "no service" at least a few times a week, sitting next to another person on same network with full service. Apps just randomly shut themselves down. Apple say there's nothing wrong with the phone. Oh, and the USB cable they gave me is stuck in my computer. Apparently there's some weird thing on the tabs which is slightly different from normal USB cables. I wouldn't touch another Apple product with a bargepole. Also, the battery life is terrible.

(I realise people will have Android horror stories, too. Just sharing my experience with my phone).

Iphone for its "simplicity"
Android for its "flexability"

Hit the nail on the head. Nothing wrong with either. Just don't forget, you can talk on them too. :biggrin1:
I personally use the S3 and love it. But I'm not about to bash an Apple product for not good reason.
