How do I smell them?

I just switched to shaving with a DE, though I had been shaving with a soap and brush for several years (Provence Sante) with my Mach 3. (Day 5 with a DE, and things look great! :001_rolle)

After finding this forum and reading all the reviews, I wanted to check out some of the classic English soaps -- Trumpers, T&H, and TOBS. My office is on the upper east side in NYC, so, it turns out that I'm walking distance from Cambridge Chemist, Pasteur's Pharmacy, and Clyde's, the three places everyone seems to recommend for getting wetshaving goods.

I walked over to Cambridge and Pasteur's this afternoon because I want to try another soap, but I would like to smell them first. Both places have various of the 3T products, but don't have many out as tester's. Pasteur's has a few signs that warns not to open sealed containers.

So, I'm curious... Most of the soaps and creams are in sealed containers, and smelling the box doesn't really give you much. How does one smell the soaps to decide whether to buy or not? :001_huh:

leap of faith

sell that which you do not like.

I know it's not the answer for which you were looking, but that's the way of things. :(

FWIW, I usually enjoy whatever I buy, at least, in the way of scents.

blades, OTOH, :frown:

Go over to Cambridge Chemist.

Tell them you're a B&B menber to get a discount.

Ask for a puck of Czech & Speake No. 88.

Take it home and sniff it.

Then sniff it again.....

It is one of the most difficult to pin down scents you will ever encounter in a shave soap. Rose, potpurri, and other mysterious aromas will waft around your nostrils. Shaving with this soap never gets boring, the scent is quite mecurical, and the lather is rich and tallowy delicious.

Buy it!:thumbup1:

Just get yourself Trumpers Limes in a Bowl :thumbup1:
