Diary (& questions) of a relative newbie

Shark SS (2nd), Palmolive stick, Pitralon Classic AS.

Two passes again (WTG/ATG) .
Today got two small red dots. Possibly subcontiously been compensating for the lack of sharpness of the blade by putting more pressure? Or was it just the anxiety that characterises this morning?
Let's find out tomorrow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm always curious how long products last. So I'm keeping track of the number of times I've used soaps/creams. Current status:
TOBS sandalwood cream: 50
Palmolive Men Classic stick : 67
Wilkinson puck (blue tub) : 50
Proraso Red soap : 50
Tabac soap (glass jar): 50

Shark SS (4th), Palmolive stick, Pitralon Classic AS.

Two passes again (WTG/ATG) .
Paid attention to the level of pressure (let the blade do the job): no more red dots.

Two passes again (WTG/ATG) .
The blade is producing more and more noise with every shave. Still, the result is DFS with no red dots and no irritation. So I'm happy to enjoy the Shark blade now.
Reached 70 shaves with the palmolive that I'm 3017ing. Should post a pic in that thread.

However noisy the blade is getting, the shaving process is nice and the result is DFS with no red dots and no irritation at all.

When first using it, many months ago, I considered Sharke blades 'not sharp enough for my level of shaving skills'. Now it clearly fits my level. So I get curious. Because at the other end of the scale, there's Astra SS for which I noted: 'too sharp and agressive for my level of shaving skills'. Curious if I could already 'master' an Astra SS.

Still a nice shaving experience and DFS result with no red dots and no irritation at all.

Astra SS (1st), Palmolive stick, Pitralon Classic AS.

Two passes again (WTG/ATG) .
As mentioned before: the Shark SS which used to be 'not sharp enough for my shaving skills', now works like a sharm for me. Today I took the plunge and switched to Astra SS. Astra SS which so many months ago, I deemed 'far too sharp and agressive for my shaving skills'. Well, I've enjoyed one of my most comfortable shaves ever. With a 'damned fine' to 'baby bottom' smooth result. Not the slightest irritation. I'm really thrilled!

Enjoyed the Astra SS again. Seems yesterday wasn't just a lucky shot. Highly superior shaving experience with highly superior result. Might have found my current favourite!

Incredible shaves I'm getting with this SS blade! What a joy. I just moved it from the third tier on my list to the first tier.
75 shaves with the Palmolive stick. I'll make sure to post a pic on the 3017 thread before it's completely gone.

Two passes again (WTG/ATG). Exept for the upperlip: one pass only..
The pic I made and posted showing the Palmolive stick after 75 shaves is the last one where the stick in still round. From today onwards, I have to hold it by the round faces and scrape of the rim on my face. Think I might get to 80.

Shaving was no fun this morning. Too much time pressure. Damped mirror. Yet a fine result after all.

Nice shave but I took the Astra one shave too far.
I might just squeeze out one last shaving from the remainder of the Palmolive stick.

Personna Platinum (red) (1st), Palmolive stick, Pitralon Classic AS

Two passes again (WTG/ATG).
After the change of hart concerning the Astra SS, I was wondering about the Personna Platinum. But no: still not a blade for me. It does give a great result (just like the Astra SS), but I really don't like shaving with it. It's like the blade is shouting at me all the time. Something like: 'hey, idiot, watch what you're doing! You're scraping a deadly sharp knife to your throat!'. No fun at all.

And after 81 shaves, the Palmolive Men Classic stick is finished. I've been using it for a month in a row now. Not sure what I'll pick tomorrow.

Shark SS (1st), Nivea sensitive balm, Proraso red AS

Two passes again (WTG/ATG).
I dislike the Personna so much I ditched it after one shave. The shave with the Shark wasn't very good either. So is it the blade or the one operating it? (rhetorical that is). Still, shaving should be fun. I'll be switching to Gillette tomorrow.
The only fun thing was returning to my very first soap, the TOBS Sandalwood.

Gillette Platinum and TOBS Sandalwood: feels like a year ago (give or take). But with a far superior result.

Totally back to great shaves. The irritation in the neck is even gone. I used the AS before taking my shower so there's just a little left of the smell. I can notice it but my wife doesn't. (She doesn't like the Proraso red smell).

Still on the road of the amazing shaves. I start wondering why I planned not to reorder Gillette Platinum. Sure, I like the concept and packaging of the 7o'clock (yellow and green) more. But I'll be re-evaluating their performance once this blade is retired.

Luckily there's nothing new to mention. Still happy shaves.
