August 9

Returned from vacation today. Switched razors to my Gillette NEW long comb. The NEW had a lot more blade feel than the Gillette Superspeed I've been using. Still using the same Shark super stainless blade. Decided to visit Boarko land with an Omega 49. I used some ARKO that I turned into a puck in an old D.R. Harris shave cream container. After shaving, used some witch hazel and CeraVe. Another DFS.

Love the look of the scales on that razor.

Superb performance from the cream! The brush was just awesome to create an amazingly creamy and slick lather...
This shave with the small razor was surprisingly and unexpectedly great!! Having just put the razor through the pasted balsa progression exactly as per @rbscebu advice...wow...the edge was keen yet smooth and very comfortably maneuverable, especially around the lips area. 3passes for a between bbs/dfs/ccs finish. Finally, an efficient result with an SR! I really enjoyed using this Torrey!!

Tonight's shave was the first I've had with Arko in a long time. I paired t he Arko with my Fendrihan Kingston razor head on a West Coast Shaving 79BR handle. I also used the same my Polisilver Super Stainless blade (I'm doing the Unobtanium Polisilver Super Stainless challenge) I've been using for a while now. This marks the seventh shave with this particular.

After some yard work today, I grabbed a cold shower and used cold water to prep my face for the shave. After my shower, I toweled myself off but left my face wet. While showering, I soaked my Van der Hagen Night Star 3-band silvertip in water and an almond-sized sliver of Arko in water in my Captain's Choice Seaworthy bowl.

I forgot how Arko had such an aromatic presence! I know some people say it smells like Ivory soap, but I still get stale corn chips and a Chinese liniment oil I used as a kid. The stale corn chips was the top note that assaulted my nose when I opened my tub (I pressed a stick of Arko into an empty hair paste jar). The Chinese liniment oil scent then continued the beatdown once I began whipping up the lather. Eventually, I surrendered and applied the lather to my face.

Unfortunately, when I made the lather, I added too much water to my bowl and wound up making my lather a little thinner than I prefer. While the lather would've made for great lather porn, it was a little too light and airy to provide good cushioning.

As a result, I wound up feeling more of the blade than I felt with my last shave (with Captain's Choice Venture shave soap). Tonight's shave consisted of two passes (WTG and ATG) and touchup buffing in my usual trouble spots. This gave me my usual BBS.

That said, I wound up with a couple little weepers, one on my upper lip and one on my lower lip, during my ATG pass. The weepers were easily staunched with my usual post-shave alum block application. The alum block also showed me just how little cushion I got with tonight's lather as I felt the alum burn all over my face.

Afterward, I splashed on some Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue aftershave splash and then rubbed in some Duke Cannon Ice Cold aftershave balm. I really felt the sting of the Aqua Velva; if this had been a morning shave, that would've woken me up entirely!

Because of the thin lather and the resulting irritation, I give this shave a 93.5/100.

Razor: Micromatic Open Comb
Blade: GEM PTFE (10)
Brush: Omega Jade Boar
Soap: Arko
Aftershave: Old Spice (India)

Good morning! An Arko August shave today. Face lathered Arko with the Omega Jade. Made an excellent lather, and the brush finally stopped eating it. Nice quick shave with the MMOC. Decided to retire the blade after today, but that was a nice long run. DFS. Finished with made in India Old Spice. There are some that say it smells more like the Shulton than the current US Old Spice. I’m not sure about that, but I will say that I have a bottle of Shulton, a bottle from 2014, a bottle from a month ago, and now this one from India. The 2014 smells the strongest, but also the sweetest and most clove like. The newest is the weakest. India and Shulton are my favorites, so there is that, and I have a sample of Stirling to try as well. The bottle from India was also glass, so that was neat!

ARKO BOARKO X
Razor: Kampfe Bros STAR Lather Catcher
Blade: GEM PTFE
Brush: Omega 10049 Big Red
Soap: ARKO
Lather: Face
Post: Thayers WH Aloe
Aftershave: Stirling Ramblin’ Man

The Shave: WTG x2/ATG passes for a DFS shave. The Kampfe Bros STAR LC looks so cool and shaves well. I think I actually prefer the Kampfe Bros CRU-STEEL because it seems smoother but both are awesome and aren’t going anywhere.
Breaking in Big Red is going well. Definitely getting great lathers with the ARKO and beginning to hog/eat less lather. Beautiful finish with Ramblin’ Man.

9th Arko-Sharko Whole-Hog shave today as I skipped Sundays Shave due to time constraints. I had 16 shaves on the Shark SS and changed it this morning. I guess I could have gone another week with the old blade but it was starting to tug a little and I was getting a few ingrown hairs.

The razor I have been using was the second DE I purchased. I got it from amazon in early 2020. It is a very smooth shaver with a really long handle. It was well worth the $13.00 dollars I paid for it. Besides, I was not a B&B member and did not know any better.

Rating 9/10 BBS

Today I experimented with shaving angle and direction of strokes. I pushed hard for BBS and I made alot of touchups trying to find the best way to remove stubble from the problem areas on my neck. End result was BBS but also some neck soreness from repeated strokes to achieve my goal. I don't blame the blade, it was great yesterday on it's first use and the Arko lather was nice and slick. Tomorrow is Wolfman Wednesday and I expect better results then. No photos today.
