Appointment with Truefitt and Hill in Las Vegas

Well, my 33rd birthday is March 7th. I've been wet shaving now for about 2 and a half months, and I really enjoy it so far. My wife and I are going to Vegas for my birthday. I called the T&H salon today and booked an appointment for a shave at 9am on the 8th. I've read some pretty good reviews about the place, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Cost is $65 - which I'm sure I would lose at a blackjack or craps table in the same amount of time, so I figure the shave is actually a bonus.

I'll report back with my opinion the following week.

Cheers.

good choice, in my opinion i like that place more than the Art of Shaving at Mandalay Bay. Plus you get a choice of cream to use, where as at the AOS you have to use their unscented because of legal issues.

Enjoy!!!

Well I hope you have a better experience than I when I went for my first straight shave at T&H in Toronto. I forget the ladies name who shaved me but never again! I gave her the benefit of the doubt when she first introduced herself but how can anyone really know how to shave a face when they have never shaved their own face.

It was very relaxing but my face had never been cut so much before after a shave. My face felt like it would after two passes with a dull safety razor blade.

Anyways, I'm sure you'll have a great experience. I just had to vent because I never really talked about here.

Let me know how it works out for you. I'll be there about a week later and have decided to leave my DE at home and just get a shave at T&H during the trip, but have been having thoughts about canceling and just doing it myself, or doing without.

About a month ago I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Nikki Hernandez at the forum shops at Caesars she is spot on ....simply the best , spent about an hour speaking with her and she is just so knowledgeable .I do think of all the places you could have gone this is the best .Best of luck..... not that you will need it .
And while you are there try the cigar shop inside and around the corner . Great coffee .

Ram...

I'm gonna urge you to reconsider T&H Vegas.... it's a great place with lotsa olde tyme atmosphere, BUT for 2 years running I've gotten a shave there and both times really regretted it... major razor burn, weepers, and a few big nicks both times.

I had a much MUCH better experience at AOS @ Mandalay.... glass smooth, comfortable shave which was totally a pleasure. AOS is also better with samples.

I did stop at Mandalay ....I don't know they didn't inspire me ....but then to who or should i say what was the name of the barber at Mandy . For what they charge they should be perfect shaves .

sorry, I don't remember the name of the barber at the Mandalay AOS. However, two different barbers at T&H left me hurtin.

Edit: Whatever you decide on, I hope it's a smooth, pain free, and enjoyable experience.

Alright - so now I'm starting to question the whole thing... I am bringing my backup HD anyway to shave the other days while I'm out there. My neck area can be very sensitive to shaving - I've just now started getting to where I know how to do it best. Now I'm having doubts as to whether I should trust someone I've never met before and, more importantly, someone who doesn't "know" my face....

I guess I'll decide by Friday and either cancel or go full steam ahead....

If you aren't comfortable with it, get a massage. Then it's win-win. You can give yourself a great shave and follow it up with someone rubbing muscles you can't reach yourself.

Your on vacation, it's your birthday present, just do it! It's also about the experience and getting pampered. Everyone should try it at some point. Hopefully you get someone who knows what there doing. Maybe call, book your appointment and talk to the person and tell them you had a bad experience before and ask for the most experience shaver.

I agree, just do it! Been shaved at AoS Mandalay Bay as well. Was a good shave. Could I have shaved myself closer, yes. Was it BBS. no. But, the entire experience was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. Go for it, and let us knowhow it went.

That seems like a good idea.

I made it -

Man O Man - I would fly to Vegas once a week for a shave if I could afford it. That was money very well spent. I had an absolute wonderful experience. I went into the shop the night before just to check it out - also had dinner at Joes in the same shop area (Stone Crab Claws are heaven on earth if you've never had them). Anyway, back to T&H. Like I said, I went into the shop the night before. I met the barber that I had an appointment with the next morning. He was very professional, and very good at what he did. I bought some Grafton creme and cologne while I was there. The next morning, I showed up at 5 till 9 and they were waiting for me. I went to the back, sat in the barber chair, which was extremely comfortable, and began talking with my barber. What really impressed me was how obvious his interest was in thoroughly discussing how I shaved myself, and how we would proceed with him shaving me. So I told him I'd been wet shaving for about 3 months or so and about the specific areas on the sides of my neck that are sometimes prone to irritation. We mutually agreed that we would not go against the grain - then the process began. I laid down completely horizontal in the chair with my feet elevated. First hot towel was applied for about 4 minutes or so. Pre-shave oil was meticulously massaged into my face followed by another hot towel for a few minutes. Then the hot lather was applied and the shave began. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but that went away about 2 seconds into the shave. I could tell the barber was top notch. I could hear and barely feel the stubble being removed with each stroke. First pass was completed with no issues at all. Third hot towel was applied, followed by another round of oil and hot lather. Second pass was across the grain as effortless as the first. I received a nice neck and lower head massage with lotion while the final hot towel was doing the magic. This was finished with a cold towel. ASB was applied and I was sat upright and felt as though I was coming back to life from a dream - no burn, no irritation and BBS. The barber took care of my neck area with the straight free of charge as a little lagniappe.

For anyone who is thinking about doing this - just do it - you won't regret it. The atmosphere was just too cool. There was another gentleman having his hair cut by another barber. It was really cool to listen to the barbers talk to each other and to us. The music ranged from Joe Cocker to Fats Domino and just seemed to suit the mood in a fantastic way. I tried to take note of the surroundings - the great antiquated barber chairs, the porcelain sinks at each of the four stations, the many products, the Trail of Tears book on the barbers shelf - it was my kind of place I gotta tell you. It came to an end all too soon. I stood up and walked around to the cashier area. As I was paying, my barber came out and offered me my scent of choice to finish everything off. He generously sprayed me with the Grafton cologne - my personal favorite of the entire T&H line. I walked out feeling 20 feet tall, and met my wife, mother in law and aunt outside who all wanted to feel my face - they too were amazed. I stood there coming to terms with the fantastic experience I just had for a few more moments and then promptly hit the Bellagio Breakfast Buffet like a rat on a cheeto.

My barber's name was Uziel D. Munoz - a true artist. He made sure I was comfortable the whole time, from the towels not being too hot or too cold, to the headrest, footrest, etc. I definitely plan to have another shave when I go back to Vegas to collect the money I let all of the casinos borrow this time.

Hope this helps anyone who may be considering...

On a side note - I've been shaving the past few weeks with a Futur which I've had good results with. I took my HD with me while traveling and the second morning there I shaved with it. Man - I had forgotten just how great this razor is. I think I'll just closet the Futur for a while.

Glad you had a great experience! As I dug through some older today papers after reading your account, I found that my barber had been Uziel as well. My experience was very different results-wise. Must be me :frown:, but glad you got everything you expected!

AWESOME! Haven't had a shave like that in 30 years. My second real paycheck I made an appointment with my barber on a Friday and then went out with a girl, that is now my wife. Smokin!

Thanks for the review. I will get the same barber when I make it to Vegas again. There are not a lot of places you can go anymore.
