What's new

1st got at a cream - C.O. Bigalow

Well, this was my first shot with a cream. Picked up the $5 tube from Bath and Body Works.

Lathered up nicely and I had read about peoples experience and the cooling effect. Wow they were right. It felt like Aqua Velva beefed up during the shave.

Gave a great shave other then 2-3 weepers and a lil irritation on my neck....but I suppose that maybe more from technique that I need to work on when using creams.

If you're looking to try a cream and don't mind the menthol/cooling feeling definitely give this a shot for $5 locally it's hard to beat.

Next up is trying this as a super lather. Either with Williams, VHD, or maybe my eucalyptus from Susie's.

I've still got half a tube of Proraso left, but when I start to run out i'll definitely be checking out the C.O. Bigelow cream next

Bigelow/Proraso is definitely great stuff; Has become my main go-to cream and I use it as a reference when trying new razors.

If you like menthol I suggest picking up a tube of Ingrams, while it takes a bit more cream to build lather the cooling sensation is just crazy!

I picked up a small tube at the C.O. Bigelow store in NYC last week. Used it for the first time last night and absolutely loved it! Great lather, smooth shave and I just love the cooling sensation. Now I know why it's talked about so much on here. I plan on getting a big tube now and using the small one for travel.

Any thoughts on what soaps might mix with this nicely

I have:
VDH
Williams
Susies sandalwood rose, alvacado, Eucalyptus, sage and citris.

Future purchases to mix with it? I definately will be using this cream in the future alone and messing around with some super lathers.

VDH + C.O. Bigelow is a classic superlather. Lots of people have used this, myself included. Great combination.

Williams + Bigelow is also a tried and true superlather, but I have not tried it myself.

I imagine Susie's Eucalyptus would be a nice choice; sage and citrus might work well, too.

I have used the VDH + Bigelow once or twice with my shave. I get a great lather but don't have nearly enough experience to tell you if my shaves have been better due to the mix. It does make an interesting scent.

I mixed CO and Susies citrus and sage. The CO took over most of the scent but it really toned down the methol which wasn't too bad since it was a cooler night.

As for the lather, it was more slick and full. It seemed to get a nice glyde like normally from a soap but add a bit of cushin to the lather. I really enjoyed it and now I'm try'n to figure out what to mix what with haha.

I tried it recently too. I can definitely understand why you wouldn't want to use it in the dead of winter

I used it all last winter. Mind you I'm in Texas and I don't get any ___ below zeros. But still, 28 degrees is pretty darn cold. This is pretty much my main cream. I'll mix in some TOBS lavender or avacado here and there just for craps and giggles but Bigelow is what I use. I'm like the Bigelow Spe......t. I've made good superlathers with is and not so good with it depending on the soap. That stuff is the greatest in my opinion and not JUST for the price.

I have been mosed impresssed with Proraso/Bigalow. I've tried C&E Nomad, Col. Conk Amber, and williams soaps, as well as Tabac creme. THe Proraso provides the best lubrication for me...

Hey guys, what is VDH? I also use the Bigelow branded Prorasa shave cream and it works well for me. I do prefer C&E Nomad and intend on trying soon the Body Shop cream. I also finished a tube of Jagger cream. Liked it the least, but it was not bad, just not as good as Bigelow or Nomad.

VDH = Van Der Hagen. Usually referring specifically to Van Der Hagen Deluxe shaving soap, available at Wal-Mart (and other drug stores: Walgreens and Rite Aid) for $1.50 per puck. :tongue_sm

If you had to pick one of the 3 T's that you would say like as much as CO/Proasso which company would it be. I'm seriously haeing a hard time trying to decide what company to try first.

If you like the cooling effect, check out My Time Bath & Body. Jean's menthol 10/10 will make the Proraso look like it is unmentholated.

Bigelow and Aqua Velva is such a great combination. If somebody broke in and cleaned out everything else from my Shave Cave, I could be happy with this.

Well, this and my Clubman.
