I've been going back and forth lately between my Slim and SS, with occasional forays back to my EJ89. The others (Merkur 38C, Fatboy, '34 Aristocrat, and post-war gold Tech) are mostly sitting at the moment.

I get good shaves from the EJ89, the Slim (usually a pass on 5, then two on 4), and the SS.

What to try next? The primary contenders are the Merkur 39C Slant & Futur. I'm also interested in the Feather AS-D2 (gotta try it), though that'll likely be one of my presents from my wife next month.

So, the 39C or the Futur? Realistically, I know that I'll inevitably order them both eventually, but which one should be next?

It's a head-scratcher. When the poll closes on Monday, I'll place an order for the winner.

It doesn't look like you have a slant, so I'd definitely suggest you give the 39C a try - I love mine. It always has a place in my rotation. Plus you seem to have a good selection of adjustable razors available to you already. So that's my suggestion! But I'm sure you'll like either, no matter what you choose.

+1 (In the interest of full disclosure: I don't have a Merkur slant, but I do have Hoffritz and Ikon slants, as well as a Futur).

...and the Slant is ordered. Now, which shave cream or soap shall I use for the first 39C shave? I'm thinking TOBS Jermyn cream - it's got such great glide and cushion...

I'm a Cella devotee, so that's what I'd go with (unless you've used it in the past and didn't like it).

Good suggestion! I hadn't thought of that one (and haven't tried it yet). How would you compare it with, say, RazoRock Classic (which I love)?

Ken

Sorry, can't answer 'cause I haven't tried the RazoRock. I researched here before joining the wet shaving world, concluded that Cella and Tabac were good to start with, bought the Cella and just never moved on. What can I say?

I can't compare it to RazoRock either but I can tell you that you have a near 100% chance of LOVING cella, unless of course you don't like marzipan/almond.
It forms a lather that is pure luxury.

I love marzipan/almond - two of my regulars (RazoRock & TOBS) are that flavor. Sounds as though I'll have to order some Cella.

Thanks for enabling! :D

The RR Classic & Cella are very similar, and still quite different.
To me the smell of both is awesome and near identical, but the RR Classic seems a bit slicker and lathers a little faster.
Both provide a great shave but I'd choose the RR if I could only have one.
