What should one expect at a pen show?

I want to start off by saying I just returned from the San Diego Comic Con. Now, all the exclusive toys and collectibles add up quickly. It was a memorable experience to say the least. I have been contemplating attending the Washington DC pen show next year. With pens ranging from a few dollars to thousands of dollars, how much money is needed to have a good time at the pen events? There was a great deal to do at the Comicon that did not require money and were actually quite entertaining. Would one be as equally entertained at a pen show? How many days is enjoyable, as opposed to overkill?

I only go for the day, usually just with the earliest public entry (no schmoozing with dinner, drinks, and cigars with the high-rollers) and I'm plenty entertained. I buy a vintage pen or two, scrounge through endless spare parts bins, talk to friendly sellers and admire their wares, and mainly get familiar with the going prices for stuff I may be selling. Sometimes I bring a pen or two for trading.

Pen shows are fun, here's a cool link -- an old Binder article. http://www.pentrace.net/penbase/Data_Returns/full_article.asp?id=400

Great article indeed...

At least with Brian there you will have a nice lunch while losing your shirt.

Hey.... I resemble that remark !!!!!!!!

Actually I am going to the DC show this year.

First and foremost schedule a B&B meetup. A great time will be had by all.

I have attended a few shows:glare:.... I would say that the most I have spent overall is probably 100.00. Now this does not count a Edison or two that I ordered at the show. :001_cool:

I am really looking forward to the DC show. There are a couple of brothers that bring tables of parts..... This year could be expensive.

I've seen new releases at these shows , liked some , loathed others (TWSBI). It is a great chance to see whats out there, but it can also get very expensive very fast.

Well here is something I need to ask. Considering I live in Texas, would I be wise to try to plan a vacation so to speak out of a pen show? The show will be "over quickly" so it would be prudent to do other things around town?

It's not hard to find things to do in DC! I wish I could find a way to make it down there this year!
