Vie-Long is here!!! pix heavy

USPS just stopped by.
I am now in possession of one Vie-Long model 16510.
BestGroomingTools.com delivered in 3 days. Can't beat that.

well... I think it's beautiful.
Pre-bloom it's noticably firm on top, plush on the sides. My ShaveMac, in comparison, is uniformly plush. My BK4 is a mop in contrast. You can contrast the knot size and shape in the pix.
The handle is striking in person. The swirling goes 3-D through the clear bottom. It's kind of like a cat's-eye marble effect, if I can date myself.
I'll try to get some more pix post-bloom.

what do you think?

Soon as the stock gets refreshed I'll make up my mind about this or the 16910. Right now I think I'm leaning to the 16910 though. But this is still a beautiful brush! Did you like the packaging of the brush RCC? Looks very nice to me. Some serious competition to Kent perhaps, but I'd have to see it in person. :001_smile

Also, has anyone ever read this? I forgot how I stumbled across it. http://theshavingroom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2000&start=0 Look for Teiste's post and he says that Plisson and Vie-long use the same hair distributor. Would be awesome if someone that has a Plisson would compare the two. *hint* *nudge* :001_rolle

Based on what I see here, you'd be good with either.

The packaging is definitely nicer than Shavemac or Simpson, for example.
It's a very subtle well put together box and insert. And it does come with a clear stand (not a nice one but hey...). The discrete logo is v.stylish IMO.
All said, however, it's cardboard and plastic as compared to leather and felt in my Kent case. I think there's something truly weirdly britishly elegant about the Kent case.

So you're going write up the comparison between your 16910 and your Plisson HMW? excellence!

Unfortunately no Plisson HMW here. I was suggesting someone else do that. :wink2: It still sounds like it's a runner up to Kent at least. Not much of anything comes close to matching theirs, and seriously, for what a Plisson costs, that is the brand that should. In the end though, it's the brush performance that matters!

Sweet looking brush...handle is absolutely gorgeous and I love the proportions...I went looking online...is it true that the loft on this is about 58mm??

I just measured it - yes. But plenty of backbone for soaps.

yeah - I'm fresh outta Plissons myself. :wink2:
And I would hear a Pils calling before that anyway.

That's some serious loft...and if it still has the backbone for soaps...THAT'S SOME SERIOUS DENSITY ...! Woweee! I have the BK4 and have stopped using it since it's so floppy ...I use soaps mostly...built two custom brushes for myself using old handles and the knots from tony...silvertip A...seated one at around 45mm and thoroughly loving it...the other at 52mm was just too high...but then those knots are not in the same league as this beauty!!! :)

Can't wait for my B&B butterscotch...will see how that plays out :)
