Torrey Tuesday

Chan Eil Whiskers

Fumbling about.
I’ve seen the #136 in square and barbers notch tip, but no round. Can anyone confirm?

#146 is round tipped and not shoulderless, apparently.

Perhaps if we pool out resources we can figure out the number system.

This is a 136.

Great shave, but I still don’t think it’s quite as sharp as it should be. These Torrey’s keep throwing me off My honing game, but man this thing has enormous potential for sure. I may be going on a shoulderless razor acquisition spree.

I thought I mentioned how inferior and dangerous those shoulder-less razors are. You've already found out how impossible Torrey razors are to hone. Especially the 136 and all other shoulder-less Torreys. But, it's a design problem in all shoulder-less straight razors.

Fact: No reasonable person should be buying these junky shoulder-less razors people are dumping on eBay!

Stick with razors having a good solid stabilizer and a real shoulder. These non-wimpy razors will serve you well for a very long time.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Torrey Tuesday approaches. Are you in? I'll being using the only Torrey I own, a $19 near mint/NOS/little or unused, but with residual blemishes from surface rusting #136.

I’ve been trying all the tallow classic soaps lately, but man this stuff is really good even in the worst hard water.

Also the edge improved again today so I’m thinking my honing was solid, but my stropping was too gentle for this edge the first time around. These are really great razors.

The #136 performed well today. I'd say its very sharp and produced a DFS using a diagonal stroke as per Torrey instructions.
