What's new

Stopped at Family Dollar to resupply today

I stopped at the local Family Dollar store today to renew my supply of Ivy Club Spice (generic OS). While there I saw what looked like Brut green bottles. I picked one up and took a sniff. It was a pretty close replica of the original Brut that I used to douse myself with back when the Beatles first
became popular. I believe the year was 1964-5. This stuff is an even better deal than the Ivy Club OS. It's only $1.50 for a 9 oz bottle!!! Wouldn't it be great if they started making a clone of Pens EF?

I have a bottle of the Brut clone, smells just like I remember Brut smelling from my Teen days. Not sure I dare to wear that scent again, as I pretty much covered my body with it as a teen, and it sort of has a negative connotation in my mind.

Never was a fan of Brut to begin with.

When I saw the knock-off for under $2 I thought I'd give it a try.

Darn, this AS is pretty good!

Plus "chicks dig it".:blushing:

I stopped there too & gave the Barbasol a whiff, as it was only a buck. Didn't fancy the smell, though, neither the blue nor regular. Maybe I should've checked out the Brut knock off--haven't tried that in 25 some years. The price is right. I didn't see any there, but maybe I'll revisit Skin Bracer at some point.

I "musked up" with Brut just last night. Always enjoy it. In europe, they get an aftershave in a cool glass bottle, still made by Faberge!

So I decided to "man up", and decanted the Family Dollar Brut clone into my recently emptied Speick splash glass bottle (minus the labels). Being the weekend, I decided to become adventurous, as if the smell was foul I wouldn't be offending anyone else with it, as I don't have to go to work.

I simply love the smell!!

I must have really really really overdone it with the Brut in high school, as the smell is nowhere near as strong as I remember. I actually had a female teacher ask me to stop wearing it; I must have literally bathed myself in it.:lol::blushing::blush:

I bought some of that Ivy Club Brut and it's good. I usually don't wear it when I go out though.

I really love the Spice. I sent an email to Vi-Jon last week telling them they should make the cologne to go with the aftershave.

I'm a Shulton guy all the way, but I think the Ivy Club smells different in a pleasing way. Since it's cheap, I just use more after each shave.

I've tried the Family Dollar Brut knock-off. It smells pretty much what I remember Brut smelling like, but it seems super highly mentholated.
Moreso than AV or Proraso or any other menthol A/S I've used.
My face is frozen for a while after using it.
Anyone else notice this?

Whatever you do, DO NOT try the Dollar General DE blades. They massacred my face.

there's even brut-a-sol!

all the dollar stores by me are...crappy. i found one that had 4 different kind of aftershaves: a blue, green, amber and red. they all smelled the same, awful.

I have tried them, they gave a pretty rough shave.

They are likely Dorco ST300's, which receive really mixed reviews; all blades do for the most part, but Dorco 300's are really not held in very high esteem.

I picked up 3 bottles of the Vi John generic Old Spice after shave today from the Family Dollar. How can I beat that deal? $1.60 per 7 oz bottle and it smells like the old Shulton OS. When I run out of PG OS, I'm going to refill the plastic bottle with the FD OS. Or maybe I'll refill my old glass Shulton bottle with it. I just hate to take a chance on my Shulton bottle getting broken, since my dad gave it to me.

The DG Personnas are OK for a quick WTG and XTG shave, but when I go ATG with them, they give me a BBS that feels like I went bobbing for fire ants.

Sounds like I need to go to Family Dollar today. I used the P&G Old Spice yesterday and it definitely isn't the same. Felt the same way about Brut. I wish I could get Osage Rub locally because I love the menthol effect.

Brut actually smells pretty good, but I have this psychological aversion to wearing it, because every time I think of Brut, I think of this guy....

I got the Family Dollar faux Brut and Old Spice, and using the Brut knockoff today, I'm pretty much convinced that it is closer to the original.

Over the years I've used Brut and Old Spice less because it just didn't seem to have the same kick it used to. Now I know it wasn't my imagination.
