Speed Honing

I got this coticule from a friend to try out and evaluate. I decided to speed hone a GD and see what the results are.

No strokes were taken off camera, I could not do it in one continuous video because my phone does not record that long

The bevel was dulled on glass prior to filming

Bevel Setting on slurry.

all very impressive, but the question is, how'd it shave, and what's the verdict; coti or Jnat?

I've always worked a touch slower, because I get to enjoy it longer.

What is the purpose of doing circles at the beginning? I have never used a coti. Thanks for the great videos Doc.
I always start every stage with circles, I think if gets things going much faster.

I have not tried it, but I would guess it would be OK, not great. It will be smooth but a little tuggy, not bad for a 5 minute hone. I would go back and finish with oil.

Verdict-for me JNATs.

I don't always hone this fast, this was more for testing out the coticule characteristics-Fast on slurry, good finisher.

Dont be silly Doc, we all know using oil on a coticule doesn't work. It destroys the stone, your edge and contributes to global warming.

What's that test you use in the beginning to test the bevel? CTT? or GTT? :p

On more serious side, what did you use to hold the coti from moving?

Great videos!

That is the CTT-Cherry Tomato Test

I have the coticule resting on a Home Depot rubber blocks. I forget the actual name on them, I will post later. They are fantastic.

This is the first time I see testing the bevel on a tomato! Is it comparable to testing the bevel on the hair of your arm/leg? Great videos Doc, thank you so much!

Yes it is Marco, the bevel that slices EASILY through the tomato will shave arm hair. I have tired it several times and correlated it, it works. I prefer it to shaving off all the hair on my arms and legs-I almost got there.

I would recommend rinsing the tomato juice immediately after trying as tomato juice is somewhat acidic and leaving it on for some time might hurt the edge.

I got the idea from Larry about using the tomato.

I call it the TCT-Tomato Cutting Test or
CTT-Cherry Tomato Test

I lean more torwards TCT as it works for all tomatoes-LOL
