That was A FANTASTIC SHAVE!

A new soap yesterday and a new kid on the block today too, another Shavemac Pure. I was loving the original one so much that I had to purchase a twin to keep it company.

I found myself longing to lather up with the TFS Mandarino Tachibana. This surprised me a little as I'm not really into strong scents... it's obviously addictive. Again I'm sitting here, an hour after my shave, and this time loving that lingering scent (mind control by TFS?).

Last night with the Beast before swapping to a different razor. Once again at a steep angle and once again an easy DFS and almost BBS in two passes. I am grateful for the two weeks with this razor because it has certainly improved my technique. The steep angle has been quite the revelation compared to using this one shallow with all its attendant blade feel. Back to a shim tonight and I do prefer it with this razor.

I finally found success with a few products that have never worked for me before.

Razor: Gillette Heritage
Blade: Gillette Platinum Plus (vintage 1985)
Brush: TSS Reine Borste 20mm boar brush
Cream: Erasmic
AS: Brut EU

I honestly can't figure out why I thought it necessary to own a Gillette Heritage razor, given that past experience with the 89 razor left me cold due to its excessive mildness. But when it became available for $20, I couldn't say no. It arrived on Monday.

Awhile back someone was selling these blades by the 100s on eBay for $25. I grabbed one lot, but they were not at all what I expected. Specifically, they invariably left me raw and bleeding with irritation. Harsh blades. The one I used today was its second shave; the first ate my face while installed in my Slim set well below where I normally keep it.

And I have never had any luck with any modern boar brush. But I already had the TSS Klassik 2-band badger with this handle, which I like, and found they they also had a synth and a boar in that handle for low prices. I figured I'd give a boar one last chance.

And now here they all are together. And they brought me an extremely comfortable shave.

This brush is not stiff or pokey like every Chinese boar knot I've ever used. Soft tips, easy to splay, good flow-through, and felt already broken in on just its second use. It was just what I wanted from a boar. The Erasmic, a tube I bought a couple years ago and now trying to use up, lathered very well.

And the razor and blade combination actually did all of the right things, neatly offsetting each others' deficiencies. A perfect 3-pass BBS. The Brut didn't sting at all.

So apparently I have blades that work with only one of my razors and a razor that works only with the 96 remaining blades from my order. Who needs variety, anyway?
