What's new

Razor replate

I sent this out to razor emporium for replating with s special request to paint the number's red instead of black. I tried to get a little fancy with the picture..... The razor did take a very looooooong time to be returned to me, but in all fairness they do let you know about a 8 week turn around. $2012-09-27_20-14-36_245.jpg
Let me know what you think (about the replating, not the picture)

Looks new, if you do not mind saying, how much was it? I have a FB I may want to do the same thing to

$55.
It is on their website. It was not a popular decision here at B&B to send it to razor emporium due to some less than stellar experience's as i learned AFTER i sent it to them, but I'll have to say i am pleased with the final results.

Bk124tt, what do you think of the re-plating job? From the photo it looks nice and like-new, but it's hard to tell from a photo.

I had to really closely examine the razor after reading your post. Upon initial examination I thought it looked pretty darn sharp! Upon a more detailed exam:
1. When I tto the inside (although clean) is not as shiny and bright as the outside of the head. I'm not really sure what industry standard is.
2. The head is full recoated but there are a few existing markings that are still noticeable. Maybe not fair to count this, maybe it is. Should a thicker coat have been applied or is a specific thickness applied to all razors for the cost of the service?

All in all I guess I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know what's standard, I have zero experience. I've noticed Razor Emporium saying they plate several times thicker than other re-platers, but I have no idea. Maybe one of the experts on here will show up and comment. (They'd probably be better equipped to comment on the photo if it were filled with a close-up of just the razor.)

Thank God you got it back )

Well Most Rhodium Pieces Are Plated Over A Nickel Base~~ And If The Prep Work Polishing Etc Is Done Correctely, There Would Be No Need
To Plate It Several Times Thicker.... Yeah Its Hard To Tell With Just That Single Pic... And As Long As Your Happy With The Outcome
That's All That Matter's.... Enjoy That Classic Shaving Instrument.. L@@ks Good

I'm glad you're happy with your razor. It looks great. Let's see if I can help with some of your questions.
1. The inside of the silo doors and blade tray appears a little duller due to it probably being plated with the doors closed. The solution from the plating bath did not have enough open space to evenly or fully make contact with the metal.
2. Plating is as good as the original metal it was on. Buffing and polishing before replate is almost as important as the plating itself. If scratches or pitting are deep enough and can't or weren't buffed out, you'll still be able to notice the blemishes.
