What Razor was made for You?

Lockback

Dull yet interesting
I have some great ones and it would be hard to narrow down to just one that was made for me.
I love my Pearl Flexi. It gives me incredibly close and yet amazingly smooth shaves. It might be the best razors I own ... but it's sort of heavy and feels a little clunky.
I have six Super Speeds and they are fantastic razors, even given the ravages of time. I could live with one for the rest of my life.
I'm a HUGE fan of the Leaf Twig and Thorn. I literally never get a bad shave out of either of them. And then there's the Rockwell 6C of course. Oh, and the Game Changer and the ...
All are great.
But the one that seems to put a smile on my face more than any other is the Edwin Jagger DE89. It just works for me. And I think it's beautiful and a great value.

Hi,

Fasan DoubleSlant.

In two types. One with a plastic top cap, the other metal.

And then I changed the handles to better suit me.

Rockwell 6S. However, this pick is based on limited experience as this is one of only five razors I used in past three years, one of those being the 6C which inspired me to get the 6S

The rub for me is I am afraid to buy and try other razors as they might be too mild or too harsh. With the Rockwell, or other adjustables, I can change the plate. So for example, I looked at the Blackbird, or Razorock Gamechanger or Lupo, as few times but could never decide what plate to get it with. I could get them with two plates but then the cost goes up…. Also, looked long and hard at the Henson and read volumes of posts but never could settle on which version is best (when in doubt pick the one in the middle - but look at the stats above, post #11, for awk_m4.) But after all my research on the Henson I decided on the Rockwell 6 (C then later the S). All I know is the Rockwell does a good job so I can hold pat With what I have. Ignorance is bliss but time of this forum creates an itch that wants to be scratched 😐

I've two that fit that bill:
  • My Weishi 9306 Super Speed clone that I've been using for over 5 years. For me it's the simplest to use with TTO convenience and easy blade replacement. Ideal weight and the pattern on the handle is my best for use when wet, never slips. Really love this razor and the quality shaves it delivers. Best $12 I've spent since returning to DE shaving.
  • Rockwell T2 Adjustable: Just acquired this as a gift a couple weeks ago. This razor perfectly replicates what I remember from my Gillette Super Adjustable that I used during my college days. It has the same style adjustment mechanism, everything operates smoothly it's built with more precision than my other razors. Enjoy the TTO simplicity. Already found my perfect adjustment setting (#3). Also love this razor.
Honorable mention to my King C. Gillette. This brass razor is very well made with the best quality chrome coating of any of my razors. With the right technique it delivers BBS shaves yet is so mild that there is almost no chance of getting a weeper. Main weakness is its handle that is slick when wet. Overall well worth the typical $20-$30 typical sale price and a bargain for the $13 I paid for it. I'll still occasionally use this razor.

I've a similar perspective as we all see the many $100+ razors on the BST that just weren't ideal for the original owner. Adjustable razors minimize this risk. I stuck to under $15 until recently when gifted a Rockwell T2 for this reason. If one is willing to spend a few seconds checking blade alignment when installing a new blade razors like my Weishi 9306, Baili's and others can work just as well as the pricier options.

Rockwell 6C and 6s. 6s gets much more use, have the 6C as a cheaper travel option. I have tried a bunch of others (Henson, rex, Merkur, Muhle, etc.) which are very nice and gave great shaves....just something about a Rockwell with a 3 plate works the best. can't explain it

Every type of razor i have shaved with in my life has been perfect for me. Yes i would love to find a "made for me" razor or have one actually made for me but both are very pricey things to/for me. But the plastic single blade, a short time with multiblade, a few electric (1 i currently have) razors have all been perfect for me.

My most recent razors, a flea market shavette (which broke or got thrown out maybe 2 years ago, memory is still struggling) and my 1959 4th quarter manufactured Gillette Fatboy (?) is my current perfect razor.

I tried to add a picture but i am not quick or smart enough to get the picture from another thread and lync it here, sorry.

Either one of my Super 109's would be my pick. I don't know what there is about this razor but I get consistently great shaves whenever I use it, so much so that if I was told I could shave with one razor for the rest of my time, it would be this razor with no hesitation. Each and every time I do a 3 pass shave on 7, 5 and 3, it's like butter.

None..
I was taught to use any SR or DE...
Just like my kids (now young adults) , I have no favorites.
I just select the best tool for the job.
If for some reason, it does not get used for a long time and does not make it into any rotation..It goes bye bye..

I like this response a lot. A razor is a puzzle to solve. Once you’ve solved it, the question is where it fits into your life. Some do, some don’t, but talk of favorites or built-for-me doesn’t really fit my experience.

Timeless .68 open comb in titanium. It’s so smooth and easy to use I almost think I could shave blindfolded with it. It shaves close as well.

The only thing that could ever supplant it is something that is just as smooth but cuts a tiny bit closer. Maybe if Timeless ever makes one with a ~.80 gap, as the .95 is just a bit much for regular use on my face.
