Peppermint Pine,Venezia Soapworks

Venezia Soapworks is a brand that seems to be Big Lots premium offering in the soap department. At least I've never seen their offerings any where else. From what I've read in the past they were a California company that contracted out their factory to well known brands and to the hotel guest soap market.Cheap soaps from china and changes in the market nearly bankrupted them. They revamped their production and direction ,now they have quite a few offerings available.

Now onto the offering that is the subject of this post.Peppermint Pine seems to be one of their holiday offerings, like the rest of the line it is offered in a 2 bar pack for $2.50 ,the bars are large--7 oz each. No tallow, all veggie based ingredients. It lathers up well ,in fact I used it to shave with one day.Face lathered and worked it into a dense stable lather. But back to the shower use of it.As I said it lathers well,is not drying and leaves the skin squeaky clean,The scent is nice although the name is misleading.I detect no peppermint and no pine either. It is more of a spruce or fir scent,a crisp evergreen that does not smell like pine-sol.Rather nice.Actually the art work on the box shows a short needled tree bough.Like a spruce or fir not a pine.

In short it is a nice scent especially for the winter months, performance is good.Longevity, not sure but if it is like their offerings I have used in the past it will be respectable.

Pick up a couple of bars.

I ran across the Venezia Soapworks Mandarin Orange for a buck a bar at a local grocery last week and bought one on impulse to try out. Turns out to be a very nice soap - I really like it both in general and for a pre-shave face-wash.

I actually found this thread after searching B&B today for information on it as a shaving soap, because I thought it might work (and because I wanted an excuse to buy a few more bars). Excuse completed ... and the store's near my workplace ... so off I go.

I am a big fan of this soap. I've not found anything close to it for the price.

The biggest downside is that I've ONLY seen it at Big Lots, and the closest one to my house is pretty far away.

The mandarin orange turns out to be an okay shaving soap -- nothing remarkable, but not a disaster either.

For fun, and because I hadn't tried to make one before, I grated part of one bar and made a shaving stick. The scent is more of an attraction than the lather, but it wasn't bad, and I'll use it again.

FWIW and YMMV -- and happy new year to all! :biggrin1:

ETA: Or maybe not. Tried to shave again with the mandarin orange, and I don't know what I did differently, but the lather was poor. Adding a dab of Godrej cream made it much, much better, but by itself it was not shave-able.

Used to buy 3-bar packs of Peppermint Pine soap, made by Nature's Partners, at Big Lots. It was a nice scent. Never shaved with it, though.

Reading this thread, I decided to check out my local Big Lots to get some Peppermint Pine, since I LOVE all things evergreen--especially at this time of the year. I am also not adverse to saving a buck or two in the process of using some nice bath soap. To my dismay, they had 3 varieties of Venezia Soapworks soaps: Cranberry Spice, Mandarin Orange, and Vanilla Something-Or-Other, but no Peppermint Pine. BUMMER!!!

I'll keep checking back to see if any comes in (and probably pick up a couple of bars of the Cranberry Spice, since of the 3 in stock I liked that scent the best). Thanks for the heads-up on this, guys.
