Back again with another patented Noob Shaver Review for the shaving homies.
If you read these threads:
then you know where I'm at. Let's get to this shall we?
Buddy is a Blackland fanboy, and turned me into one as well. I have the Blackbird and the Sabre...had the Dart but sold it because it was similar enough of a shave to the Blackbird that I didn't feel both were necessary, and the Vector will be here by the end of the week.
Wanted to try this format, and wanted to do it with one from my favorite razor company, hence the Sabre. 3 shaves in, feel like I'm getting a handle on it (ha) so figured I'd chuck up a short review.
First few shaves:
This one went pretty well, even though it felt weird....and of course I cut myself. Trying to go ATG on my neck with a new razor is a recipe for blood and I need to remember that. Other than that, good shave.
This one went better, no blood....but it was sort of uncomfortable. I usually try to read up on angles for razors I own but haven't tried yet, and everything I'd read about Gem razors said to keep the cap flat against my face, more or less. It's an unusual angle for me, and I didn't like it.
This morning's shave:
Marco method, Milksteak as it's the best 'residual slickness' soap I own, and also hey....a hangover. I wasn't really paying attention and just sort of used this like I do my DE's. I ride the bar on a lot of them, and this morning it just kind of clicked into place. Rode the bar, almost zero pressure (which I'm noticing is a thing with Blackland razors, if you own one try zero pressure and see what happens) and just let it do its thing.....went on autopilot and it worked out great. Slick awesome shave, no blood, didn't really go ATG on my neck as it was more of an angle down towards my shoulders but it worked. 10/10 for this one.
Build quality is all Blackland....this thing is perfect. More or less weighs about as much as my Blackbird, which is helpful. I didn't notice any drag, nothing I don't like about it. Damn good razor from a great company doing interesting designs here in the US. Can't help but to support that.
This is close and smooth....and I'd say efficient to a high degree. It's not mean about it; it's less aggressive right off the bat than the Blackbird was for me, either that or I'm getting better at this whole shaving thing.
For me, the Blackbird is the most efficient razor I've ever used....that thing makes my face feel like glass when I'm done shaving, so I'd call that a 10 for efficiency.
If the BB is a 10, the Sabre would be around a 9. I shaved around 8 hours ago and although the stubble is starting to come back, I'm ok with that. If I grab a BBS shave on the Blackbird I really don't need to shave for around 24 hours. This feels like it's going to be less than that, but still more efficient in this category than anything else I've used save the BB.
Looking forward to using this thing in the future and getting better with it, just as I did the Blackbird which turned out to be my favorite razor for the last 8 or so months. 2 years into this shaving journey, and no razor has lasted longer than 3 months as a favorite until that Bird came along.
All this said, I now have really high hopes for the Vector; I think given the quality of the shaves I've gotten from the Blackland stuff that the Vector is going to be outstanding as well.
Any questions feel free.

Noob Review: Rex Envoy
Last couple shaves: Disclaimers: I'm only using Gillette Platinums now, and have no idea how other blades perform in this razor. I'm also only using DG Milksteak and Saponificio Varesino for soaps, and have zero idea how this razor would fare using anything else. Review below: I have to...
