What's new

Neck and Shoulder Work

I have disk degeneration in C5-7 and is moving down into upper thoracic area. I have calmed the neck muscles (levator) and have had a posture change and now my traps are going crazy. I really need a well rounded shoulder routine and have watched some videos. I have been to physical therapy and pulling on the bands sure help, but I would like to step up. I know I need a trainer, but money and time, I want to work in home on the excise program or go to the senior center if I knew what to do on there machine. Any way the neck is locked down and quality of life in the mornings and basically all day is in the gutter. I can not take muscle relaxers due to Sjogren's, a further manifestation of RA which is not to bad after starting Embrel.

What I am looking for is probably a routine and the order it should be done in, I have a set of dumb bells and will be interested in reading your comments. I sure would like to get a set of shoulders I see when I get around those serious white water canoe bunch. Wish I was in good enough shape to get back on the Nantahala again, which is a goal.

Sounds bad, but I believe in hard work and getting the CHI moving.

Thanks to all on the front end B&B rocks. I do not live in the clubhouse and I look forward to meeting some new folks and and talking to a few I have been missing that hang around here.

I hear that signing off with
"Cheers Ron" Is out of vogue
So it is now

Good Day Ron
Surely Paul Harvey can't be wrong

Sounds like you need a physical therapist to set up a routine for you, specific problems need specific solutions.

Failing that, try yoga - it looks easy, and but it'll kick your butt and it's great for alignment /posture issues.

Yoga in the mornings is what gets me moving, I need to get into a full work out with it again and do specific moves of which I do not know. Sun Salutation is all I do for about fifteen minutes and that barley get me loosened up. I used to attend an Ashtanga class and I have never sweet so hard, rocks of salt would be on my face no joke. i always dreaded if the class was to crowded the instructor would thin the class very quickly in about fifteen minutes all the newbies would leave as it was an 90 minute session. This was at a gym I was a member of and it has since stopped offering that instructor. I really need to find another class, thanks for making me remember how good that was. I am getting lined up to see a Thia Yoga Message specialist. She just got back from over seas getting some training on problems like mine. She has been certified to teach, I have seen her once and she can get it done. I was curios to see if there were others out there, I do agree with chronic problems one needs to proceed with care. Here is her site if anyone is interested in the Knoxville area, Kelly is very good at message and I would recommend the Thia Yoga Message her link http://www.iluvmassage.net/default.aspx Maybe I can get things broke up enough to get back into the game I have some bad stuff going on orthopedicly and really need get with the program. House mountain has been calling also, the 1100 foot jump up the east side will fix any one.

If someone has a simple shoulder routine with dumb bells chime in. In the mean time I am hitting youtube with discretion.
