What's new

My EJ de89 dented on the handle

I don't remember dropping it but this morning I noticed dimples on the handle. I have only had this for 2 months!!!!!
Makes me wonder if anyone in the house was messing with it.
I know it's only cosmetic but I hate looking at this razor now.

What to do?

I'm thinking about using this for travel and getting a new one in barley.

It's got some character now! Enjoy it. Unless you didn't like the razor and were going to sell it I wouldn't worry at all about it.

* Great suggestion to yourself! The one in barley is very lovely. Good luck. However, you could get a heavier handle for it such as the UFO or Weber Bulldog. That would really improve the EJ89.

I know what you mean, I'm still going to get another one a barley this time. I gotta say I really like this razor, I use it with Astra and Feathers.

Interesting, I have to check out the other handles.

Problem solved, I just pulled the trigger on a Weber bulldog handle. After reading up and finding so many people enthusiastic about this combo I felt confidence on my purchase. Honestly I could have bought a barley for almost the same price but what they hey. I'll get that later.

I'll use my Tuckaway for travel!

I had a razor that mysteriouslt had a plating ding the other day and I knew I did not drop it. I finally found out one of my Grand Kids knocked it off the counter onto the floor. The Wife being ever so helpful put it back in it's place but forgot to mention it to me. Good luck with the new handle.

I have a Barley Chrome handle that has the same dent. These things dent easily. They are hollow and very soft. I dropped mine and dented it on week 2 of ownership. I just sucked it up and used it as is, however, I can tell you, as beautiful as this handle is, the Weber Bulldog handle is an order of magnitude better in all respects. The head is wonderful and with a Weber handle you will not want another slippery EJ handle.

Get a solid stainless steel handle for it.

That way the next time someone bonks it you will know who it was because their arm will be in a sling

Here's my DE89 head on a BRW deluxe long bull mastiff handle. Looks a LOT better than anything that comes with that head

just a note, I never had a problem with the handle being slippery. I do not really grab it to hard and my ring finger acts like a stopper preventing it from slipping down. Looking forward to trying out my new bulldog handle. Thanks for the advice guys.

I never experienced stock barley handle as slippery either, and I love the way the barley handle looks on this razor, but after I used a solid handle (mine is an Ikon) with this head, I have no interest in the barley handle. It's more about heft, balance, etc. The stock hollow handle is just okay, but the solid stainless such as your Weber bulldog (which is excellent, BTW I tried a Weber ARC with one and the handle was the most excellent part of the razor) transform this razor.

Great decision on the Bulldog! You will really enjoy that with EJ head as well as numerous other than razor heads you may encounter in your future.

OK thanks to your advice I switch to a bulldog handle. Going to use it tomorrow but so far looks and feels great. I did lose some of that head heavy balance I used to my advantage. Let's see how it does.

My DE89 has a dent on its handle too, I've no idea how it happened!

Nobody in the house has admitted to it yet...

I'm curious whether the heavier bulldog handle makes the 89 head shave more aggressively (due the pressure from the weight) ?

Also, how well do the threads on the 89 head fit the weber handle ?
