I'm just about finishing my 3rd month of ownership and use of my Goodfellas Smile Valynor razor, so I thought I would give it a mini review.
IMHO, this is one of the coolest looking razors to be found right now. Very innovative and different in a good way. Some people may think differently, as the looks and build of this razor is very unique. It's a 4 piece razor, as the brass insert screws onto the aluminum outer handle and together they screw into the base. My only knock on this razor is I think the stud on the baseplate that the handle screws into is a bit short. Other than that, the construction, fit and finish is very good.
As for the shave, I wasn't immediately impressed. Loading my usual Trig and Treet Platinum blades, I found the shave was to mild and sort of inefficient with little blade feel. I could get a BBS, but only after 3 passes and some buffing. So I thought I should try another blade and I then went with Treet Carbon, and bam! Smooth as silk and left my face like glass. Very easy shave that didn't take much thought or caution. I've also tried a Feather, which I'm not normally a fan of, and it worked equally well in this razor. The handle is super grippy and your fingers will not slip. At 78 grams, it's not a heavyweight, but more like a nimble middleweight. It's well balanced between handle and head. The cap is pretty flat so it's easy to get into those tough to shave areas. You can shave without the brass weight installed, which would cut the weight by about half. I haven't tried that, although some people have and liked it. It would definitely be head-heavy in that configuration. The brass has not turned at all, perhaps just a hair darker than original. It still looks great and I only give it a quick wipe down when finished.
I would absolutely recommend this razor to those that like a milder shave experience. With a sharp blade, she provides a wonderfully smooth, efficient and easy shave. For me, BBS is possible with only 2 passes. I also think it's beautiful to look at and different than anything else on the market. Price wise, I think it well priced at $89. Not to bad at all for a sexy, completely made-in-Italy razor that can give you a premium shave.
