Musings Trumper's v. Castle Forbes

My heavy rotation at the moment includes the Trumper's Coconut and CF Lime. I've come to some conclusions and wonder if others have had similar experiences.

In my view, the Trumper's is notably better in terms of ease and quality of lather. I like the CF, think it gives a nice shave, but to me the Trumper is just a couple of ticks better in terms of the lather quality. And I find the use much easier--Trumper's really just takes a couple of twirls in the tub and a few in the scuttle. With the CF I find my self frequently having to dig out a pea of extra cream to get the lather right on pass 3 and 4.

I'm not suggesting the CF isn't a good cream--these two are among my favorites. But I think I'd take the Trumper's if I had to choose one.

The one place where I think the CF is noticeably better, and probably better than anything else I've used, is scent. Comparing the CF lime with T&H lime is like comparing a can of lemon pledge with a real lemon. The CF smells good enough to eat.

If I had to chose between CF and Trumpers, I don't know which way I'd go. Trumpers is just a wonderful cream to work with. They both smell great the CF is definitely better in terms of scent. I'd hate to be without either of them.

I'll chime in here.

I use 95% soaps, but when I choose to shave with cream, I choose GFT Coconut. It smokes any other cream out there, CF included. I've got many many high end creams that I've said to my wife take it for your stuff in the shower, and it will last here a decade.

I will not give her my GFT Coconut. I save the best me.

same here.

how about this....

Comparing Trumper Lime to CF Lime is like comparing a Key Lime pie baked by Auntie Mary (Trumper) vs a cup of freshly squeezed lime juice. (CF Lime)

I like Trumper lime better, but CF Lime is still A+ cream. They are both winners, but I like Trumper just a little bit better. :tongue_sm

Several years ago I received samples of Trumper's creams and a sample of CF lavender cream. Was not impressed by CF scent or performance; bought Trumper's coconut and violet, and have been very happy with my choice.

Good to hear the good reviews on GT coconut 'cause that's my next tub of cream. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm a soap guy but I had use both CF & Trumpers coconut. CF is my favorite, also I swirl the brush in the pot and then work it in a bowl, like a soft soap

Count me the opposite of most on this thread. I am now a soap user 99% of the time but when I do use cream, it is almost always Castle Forbes. I have used a number of different Trumper creams and while they are good products I have never found their $30 price tag warranted. And remember, I am one of those who thinks that at the cost per shave, price really doesn't figure into it most times with these premium products.

The Trumper creams have WAY too much colourant in them. My jar of Violet would run purple streams down the handle of brushes. Unnecessary. Castle Forbes has none. Another effect was that it took a good 1/2-1 full teaspoon of it to get a great lather with my water. Castle Forbes only requires the slightest covering of the brush tips with product directly from the jar. Probably less than 1/8 teaspoon. No kidding. I also like the "brighter" fragrance the essential oils give CF. And the lather. CF simply leaves my skin feeling like kid leather. I always had a bit of drag with Trumper.

No one should take this as bashing Trumper. I simply find the product to be a genuine rung below CF. Now if they would remove all the colouring agents from their creams, and lessen the sweetness of some of the scents, I may change my mind. Both are top shelf but for me, CF sits alone at the top of that shelf.

By the by. I see there is much love for Trumper coconut and it is one of their scents I have not tried. I may have to get a sample of it somewhere and give it a go. Does it have the overdone colour like rose or violet?

If I recall its white. It is a great cream. I have the soap, which I love and will probably use today.
