Make your own antiperspirant?

Anyone here mix their own antiperspirant? I'm getting sort of tired of buying little applicators with lots of plastic and noticed you can buy bottles of aluminum chlorohydrate and chloride solutions online. It seems pretty straightforward to just mix your own in a spray bottle or something, but thought I'd ask here because there's lots of DIY types on the forum.

I'm trying alum as a deodorant/anti perspirant. I suspect I won't know how effective it is until the summer.

My reasons are to limit the chemicals I put on my body, and also to preserve the fabric of my new preferred clothes: merino wool.
