Maas vs. Weiman

Hi all,

I recently purchased a user-grade Gillette 40s style Super Speed. I'd really like to polish it up and make it shine.

The most references to metal polishes I have seen are to Maas. I've also seen Flitz and Weiman mentioned.

What is your favorite metal polish? Is there a real difference in performance between them all? What is the right polish to use on my 40s style Super Speed? If I am not mistaken, it is a brass? razor with a nickel plating (It would be helpful to have this clarified by any of the Gillette vintage experts on this forum). Is there a particular polish that must be used for this type of plating? Is there a difference in abrasiveness?

I ask these questions because I stopped by Wally World today to pick up some Mennen Skin Bracer (love this stuff!) and noticed they don't sell Maas. In fact, I can't get it locally. Wal-Mart sells 8 oz of Weiman metal polish for $3.50. Amazon sells 2 oz of Maas for $8. So really, Maas costs 10 times as much as Weiman! Is the price difference that justifiable from a performance standpoint? I'd rather spend a little bit extra on polish to make sure I get the right stuff for my razor.

I know i watch too much mma, because i thought the title said Maia vs Weidman.

Weiman is excellent and locally available. I've used it on hundreds of razors.

perfectly safe on nickel over brass, but never use on gold plating.

I said Flitz.

Been using it on fire-arms for, well, most of my life now.......So, I had it, here, at the house, when I started cleaning DE....I like the results with both.

I would say flitz would be the best. Maas is a bit more aggressive than flitz, flitz supposedly doesn't have any grit added to it. Flitz has always done a good job for me, but Maas has too. I would hate for you to use Maas and have a razor with thin plating and remove some of the plating.

I would try to use some scrubbing bubbles to get it nice and clean first and then see what you are working with.
