What's new

I was wrong about proraso

When I first started wet shaving I had the tube of bigalow shave cream and used it all. But it left me dry and I didn't care for the Euculyptus. I have a lot of different hard soaps and a few of the soft soaps, most of which I really like so I figured proraso was just not for me and I simply forgot about it. Then one day I was in rubinovs here in Phoenix and picked up a tub of proraso sensitive. I had not realized its a soft soap. I thought it was just the cream in a tub.
So the first save with it was amazing! Easily one of my smoothest shaves. I thought it was because I was using a Teflon coated blade until I tried it a Gillette yellow and had the same results.

This soap is amazing!!

So for all you folks that might disregard this soap for whatever reason, please give a try.

is the tub white? if so, it's green tea and aloe, right? which would make it different than the green tub of proraso.

If you like proraso white, i think you'd really enjoy SMN.

Yes, it is the white tub. What's SMN?

I found that I didnt get on with Proraso cream, it eventualy kinda seperated in the tube. However the soap i the green pot is pretty good stuff in comparison.

My face tends to dry very easily, so I like mixing an uberlather of proraso white with the proraso green tube and about 4 drops of glycerin. Amazing!

i would love to be able to find the ingredients online, but can't really... but i hesitate to say one way or the other right now. maybe someone with easy access to the label will chime in. once i get home, i can answer if no one has.

i think no eucalyptus, but very light menthol.

The new formulation white definitely has menthol in it. I don't see eucalyptus listed among the ingredients. I've shaved with it a few times and I think it is outstanding and much better than the older formulation.

What's SMN?

SMN = Santa Maria Novella. With this acronym we usually refer to the their shaving cream, known as Crema da Barba. It's a top shelf product and their best seller. The actual manufacturer is the Ludovico Martelli Srl, the company that also produces Proraso. For further info on the Officina Profuma Farmaceutica SMN give a look here http://www.smnovella.it/?lang=en

As penance you must say three Hail Musgos and use a puck of Williams to completion.

You must click harder! :biggrin1: Here they are. As can be seen, new formula white has menthol, listed as 9th ingredient (11th in old formula Proraso white). No eucalyptus. I have both old and new Proraso white, and the menthol cooling is to me more prominent in the new one than the old one.

If someone was close to me and wanted my tube of Proraso I'd gladly give it to them. It lathers and protects just fine, but I don't like the menthol and eucalyptus feeling on my face at all.

When I use it my wife smells it and asks why I am using BenGay.
