What's new

Tabac, wow!

Just used Tabac today for the first time. I've been looking for a tobacco scented cream or soap, so I bought a tub of Tabac and a tub of TOBS tobacco scented cream. The TOBS performed fantastically, but the scent disappointed. The Tabac OTH, wow! The scents are very reminscent, to my memory, of the original American Old Spice from back in the day, but much more robust with some some "woody" accents. The balm is fantastic too. And, the scent lingers. I finished shaving about three hours ago and the scent is as strong now as when I applied the balm, but not overpowering, it's very pleasant.

Two pass shave with my Artist Club DX and I'm BBS. I didn't even get the lather that foamy, it was super slick. This stuff is definitely staying on my permanent inventory list. I can't believe I waited so long to try this stuff!

I always loved the fragrance of the old Tabac tallow version. Never tried the new formula. Bought the Tabac aftershave splash too.

I have a puck of the older tallow Tabac soap and it's a very good soap. Once I use up some of my other soaps I'm considering trying the new (non tallow) formula. According to many gents here, the new formula is also a very good soap. As a plus, the Mrs. says the scent is good.

Are you sure you have Tabac? Never heard the scent compared to Old Spice and woody…..maybe grandma’s purse but not Old Spice and woody.

I'm currently doing a comparison between the old tallow version and the new version, and I have been a Tabac fan for years.

I'm not in the "Has to be tallow" church, I'm agnostic between tallow or vegetable bases, I have great examples of both. The newer Tabac is a terrific soap, IMNSHO.

Definitely Tabac, and to my nose, I definitely smell something in it very similar to the origial Old Spice. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something there that's similar. I definitely get the grandma's purse hints too lol.

I need to use Tabac more. I have a stick and a small bottle of aftershave splash in my Dopp kit that I only use when traveling.

I'm just teasing on the "tallow" aspect. I've used many vegetable soaps that were amazing. Reformulations always bring out polarizing opinions on "new vs old". Not as as much as crappy soaps being discounted and then everyone claiming it was the best ever, but close.

As a long time Haslinger (Tallow) user and lover who didn't stockpile when it reformulated. I'm hoping the vegetable formula is just as good. I've heard it is. I'm planning on finally pulling the trigger on a puck or two shortly.

Same here. I used to be, but after trying some non-tallow soaps and creams that whip up really slick lather, I'm not so hard-nosed on the "it has to be tallow" anymore. That said, I hope that soap makers don't continue on the trend of phasing out tallow. I think both bases are great and it's nice t have the option of having both.

@brucered Never having tried the original Haslinger, I can't say, but I am thoroughly impressed with their current version. I think of my half dozen or so "favorite" soaps now they run about half/half tallow and non-tallow. I quit worrying about it a long time ago.

Also if you are a fan of shave sticks which as a head shaver I find them super useful. Just rub the stick on my head after getting my it wet then lather right on my dome, good to go. Tabac is probably the best shave stick I’ve found.

I mean you can also make your own shave sticks out of soap if you want but for pre made sticks Tabac is king, Lea is maybe a half step behind but to me Tabac sticks are tops. Phenomenal soap that’s still a top 3 for me even after 10+ years of wet shaving

LOL…I was just messing with you. I’m a long time Tabac fan.
