Tabac, wow!

Ask me about shaving naked!
I'm just teasing on the "tallow" aspect.

Love the Tabac! Pulled out some Tabac with tallow a couple of weeks ago and can’t put it back. A member gave me a sample of the vegan version - good stuff. Thinking about buying a puck.

I like it too, except for the scent strength. I can fumigate my house with one shave from Tabac, and it takes days to get the scent out of a brush. I really need to experiment with diluting it.

As an old Tabac user I wanted to try the new formulation so I've bought a brand new Tabac stick in a local store. Pretty much the same soap except for the post-shave feel. Tallow-based Tabac is so much better in that regard, at least for my skin. That makes the new Tabac an average soap and nostalgia is not enough to make me want to buy it again.

This comment from @Mammutlesto on the other comparison Tabac thread sums it up perfectly for me. I have tried the reformulated V1 (not great) and the 2024 V2 (much better) extensively and the V2 lather is nice but it is definitely missing the post shave feel.

I'm counting down from around 500g of the older tallow version in the stash. Great performing soap with a slightly oily feel I've not found in any others. Have not tried the newer veggie version yet.

Also missing on the recent reformulation is the slight ‘oily’ feel that made tallow Tabac so unique among soaps that @NorthernSoul mentioned.

Veggie soaps are great, I love Martin de Candre but the original tallow Tabac was something special.

I have nothing against vegan soaps. My favorite soaps ever are Saponificio Varesino and the now deeply missed Pannacrema Nuavia Blu. I also love most of the English shaving creams. Nothing beats the performance of TOBS at its price point ($12 or less is the price I often find them). I could shave for the rest of my life with Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort cream and I would be a happy camper. All the mentioned products have a vegan base.

But when it comes to Tabac, the switch to the new base has been a deal breaker for me. I still have half puck left of the old Tallow base that I will have to use sparingly

All of my favorite soaps contain tallow and coconut oil. Reading this thread reminded me that there is one soap with tallow and coconut oil that I have not used since before the pandemic - Mike's Natural Soaps - so I ordered a puck of Mike's lime this afternoon.

so all Tabac non tallow version or can you still buy both? wanted to try it but really fell in love with tallow based soaps. I wonder what stock is being sold on amazon?

For those looking for Tallow Tabac....

I contacted Fendrihan this morning and received the following reply:

"We just checked the ingredients of the units and the ones we currently have in stock. The sticks and their refills do have tallowate however the soap pucks and refills do not. The distributor often sends us mixed formulas so it's hard to keep track."

I do like the veggie, but I couldn't help it. I just ordered a few refills. :)

I'm not a big fan of the scent, but I overlook it because of the performance. If Tabac had introduced another scent, I think it would have been a far more popular shaving soap. As it is, it smells like an old lady's purse.

They sort of did have another scent. Sir Irisch Moos. I say 'sort of' because while both products were the offspring of one company, it wasn't well known.

I found the SIM scent better to my nose, though I still enjoy the Tabac scent as well.

Supposedly the non-tallow Tabac, that I currently use, has a milder scent than the tallow version. My current puck's scent, in an open mug, has mellowed significantly over time as is the case for @Frank Shaves as noted in his post above. Even when new I didn't see the scent as too strong.

Apologies if I'm interrupting, but does the 2024 formula have a better post shave than the 2021 formula? 2021 dries me out something fierce.

I only have the 2022 non-tallow formula (believe it has been changed again since then) and find that the post shave feel is fine and at least as good as some of the other soaps we both use like Razorock XXX or D.R. Harris (Windsor in my case). Hope that helps. If someone has used both the pre-2022 tallow formula and latest 2025 non-tallow formula please pipe in.
