Hot weather = Sensitive skin?

up in the NW, Portland OR is hitting record high temperatures. we hit 110 yesterday, and most folks just are not prepared with AC or an equivalent to deal with it.

thus, it seems that my face is sweating for hours each day, and my most recent shaves have been less than comfortable even with my smoothest razors. i can only attribute this to the heat.

has anyone experienced this or something similar??

Funny, my skin gets irritated more easily in cold, dry weather. In summer, my shaves seem to be smoother.

Yes, I've noticed this yesterday. Right after shaving I went to let my dogs out steped outside and the humidity/hotness gave me a little irritation feel.

Oy, no AC for you? Man, that's brutal. I hope you're keeping hydrated. Also, where were you that it got to 110? The official high was 106 yesterday (like that's so much better), from what I saw on channel 2. It got to about 105 at my house in Wilsonville. But hey, at least it's dry, right? Anyway, per your question, I can't say as I've experienced that before - that is to say an increase in irritation during the shaves that comes from excessive sweating or heat. I do know that if I sweat within a few hours of a shave, my face will sting a bit, but I don't think the sweat is causing the irritation so much as it is "revealing" it, if that makes sense. The shaves themselves seem to be about the same. Hang in there...80 degree temps are on their way next week.

You may be suffering from a mild case of prickly heat (miliaria) - which happens when the sweat glands get clogged trying to move all that moisture to the surface of your skin.

I'd advise against using anything that may tend to clog your pores: pre-shave oils, moisturizers, aftershave balms, etc. Try and keep your face as cool and dry as possible between shaves. If shaving irritates your face, consider sporting a little "designer stubble" - at least until the heat wave breaks.

yep, same problem. I'm in NC and we have the matching humidity. like being in a steam bath all day. Mind you, YMMV, for me a very cool razor does the trick. no or almost no hot/warm water. lighten up your touch and don't go for BBS on the worst days. just a DFS will do. And i don't use AS Balms or milks in the summer. Thayers or alcohol based AS and I'm good to go.
