Help me pick a razor head

I just recently purchased a Bull Mastiff handle with a Tech head and me and that Tech head does not get along at all.Now I am sitting here thinking what I should buy to replace the Tech head and do I keep the Tech head or toss it.
Right now I used a SS Red Tip and a Edwin Jagger DE89L and love both of them.

The Gillette Tech razor head is one of the mildest and best shavers ever made. I understand YMMV. You don't explain why you are not getting along with it. It could be your technique, proper shave preparation, your blade type, or soap/cream that you are using.

If you are new to wet shaving I would suggest that you spend a lot more time learning to use the Tech. I just purchased my 8th Tech, a Fat Handled, silver plated razor. They are one of the most forgiving razors I have heard of.

I am currently using a Feather Portable (Tech clone) with a LUX stainless steel handle to get DFS. The LUX handle is about 2 grams heavier then the standard ball end Tech. With your set up you should be getting DFS. If you spend the time to learn with that razor it should serve you well for many years.

Yes,I am new to DE shaving and I am unsure of the open comb,I do not know what to expect from it.I wish my EJ head would fit on it.

Dcrosso,
I got a very bad razor burn and a pretty bad cut under my jaw.I am new to shaving but I had not ever cut my self until yesterday.I used the same blade(personna red)as I use in the other razors and the same cream. No cuts or burn until using the tech so I have to assume the problem is the Tech.

A lot of people like the NEW head on that handle. Bob sells beautiful replated NEW heads for a reasonable price.

Oh, and by the way, if you really want to get rid of that Tech head, I'll be happy to take it off your hands.:thumbup1: Just send me a PM.

If you would have told me that you had a EJ head I would have threaded your handle metric.
You can open up the threads with a M5 X 0.8 metric tap, it will still fit the Gillette heads.
Or you can send the handle back to me an I will do it for the cost of postage.
Takes less time to do it then it does to type it.
Reason I don't thread all my handle metric is some of the vintage Gillette heads have worn undersize threads and I don't want a loose fit.
BTW. I'm not seeing any recent orders with Tech heads going to Texas, did you buy 3rd party?
Bob.

Bob was kind enough to still help me even though I did not buy the handle from him.I have decided that I do not want the handle or head any more and I will B/S/T it as soon as I have been on the forums the required amount of time.Thank you for your time.

Hi Paul,

Please do not take any of this as being critical, but your description of you experience with the tech razor is the exact opposite of what one normally hears about tech razors. Do what you want of course, but you may wish to not cast it aside forever.

I have said a few times that this razor or that was not fit to even use as a door stop, only the rediscover them a few months later and only have praise for the same razor.

What I do is lock the razor in a dark drawer for a few months to let it think about how it shaved my face the last time. This seems to make some razors shave my face much better. I know it could be that my technique has improved, but I tend to think the razor has had time to weigh it actions.

What ever you do, enjoy the adventure....

If you're able to use a Red Tip without problems, an open comb old or new head shouldn't be a problem. I've read a lot about how aggressive the Old is, only to find that it wasn't any harder to use than my Red Tip. My Red Tip drew a lot of blood the first time I used it. The Old didn't. I've gone back to using the Red Tip this week and found it to be an excellent shaver.

I know that you are thinking about ridding yourself of this razor, but set it aside and revisit in a month or so. I am using a Bull Mastiff handle with a feather portable head and getting the best shaves of my life. If you like the red tip, you might like the feather portable head. The feather portable is a more aggressive tech clone and can be found for about $8.

Wow,seems alot of people like the Tech, well that means I should have no problem selling it,I am 100% positive another one will never touch my face.
I went a long time before I discovered my love for DE shaving and I think every shave is precious,so why should I mess around with this,in my opinion, inferior razor when I know I will have a fantastic shave if I reach for the Red Tip or the Edwin Jagger.
I do not mean to put down someones favorite razor,I am just saying it does not work for me and other razors do.

I'd take up Bob on his very generous offer - the DE89L head is one of the best out there. Heck, I've been on the fence for awhile for the same thing. I just need to decide on the handle I want - I already know the DE89L is right for me.
