Wolfman razors

You're on the right track.

WR1 Gap/Blade Exposure
.48 = -0.14
.54 = -0.06
.61 = +0.02
.67 = +0.10
.74 = +0.18
.80 = +0.28

WR2 Gap/Blade Exposure
.75 = -0.150mm
.85 = -0.09mm
.95 = -0.05
1.05 = +.01
1.15 = .06
1.25 = .11
1.35 = .16
1.45 = .21
1.55 = .26

My WR1 .74 has much more blade feel than my WR2 1.05 or even the WR2 1.25

I agree with @kingfisher that the wr1 .61 might be suitable if you prefer a thin head. The WR1 is the easiest razor I've ever used to get right up under my nostrils with the Razorock SS Lupo coming in a close second. I don't mean ATG or XTG contortions, just place the edge/corner of the WR1 right up in there at the slightest angle WTG and shave it right off. The WR2 (although very smooth) is a more bulky head and lacks the nimbleness of the WR1.

I think the Slim gap (as far as I can find) on setting 3 is 0.022 inch, so 0.55mm and 0.017 inch or 0.43mm at setting 2. I have no idea on the blade exposure for the Slim.
Looks like A wr1 .48 gap would not be efficient even if the blade exposure is positive/great. a slim adjustable at 2 is rough 0.43mm , and thats not far from .48 And a slims gap at setting 2 isn't wide enough to efficient enough to accomplish much.

Hopefully this illustration will help. When the blade extends past the shave plane it is positive exposure, behind is negative etc.

Don't focus on the size of the gap: it is only part of the formula for designing a razor. There several razors with very small gaps, e.g. Lambda Athena is a mere .34 gap.

The wr1 is a much thinner head. If you are looking to get something with a head profile even remotely similar to the Tech, the wr1 is the way to go.

Yes, a wr1 with a 0.75 gap would be much more aggressive than a wr2 with the same gap. It's not close.

Based on what you have said about your preferences in a razor, you probably would enjoy a wr1 with a very small gap, like maybe the 0.61.

Great advice!!

The bottom line is that WR1 and WR2 razor head geometry are very different. For me the answer is the WR1 because I prefer the smaller, more nimble head design. I also appreciate just a bit more blade feel. Many others prefer the WR2. Once you settle on the razor, then decide on the optimal blade gap. :popc::popc:

I was considering the .48 Wr1. But the blade gap is so low (compared to the slim adjustable at setting 2) it looks like it would not be efficient enough even though the exposure big. That's even a smaller gap than the Feather asd2.

You might love the 0.48. Or whatever is the next gap between 0.48 and 0.61.

If you would like, you can borrow my 0.58 Lupo to give it a try. It is very similar in feel to the wr1. If you like the 0.58 lupo but feel it is still too aggressive, you could fairly confidently buy the 0.48 wr1.

Michael/Southbound, you could order a DC (dual comb) WR1 with 1 side .48 and the other, perhaps a .61. And is you do that, it is best you arrange for Tara to inform James to mark a distinction for the gaps

I am going to take @kingfisher up on his offer for the loan of the Lupo. It may save me some money and sorrow on jumping on the Wolfman too soon .

I really enjoy my Gillette slim adjustable its so versatile. First pass on 7 second 5 third 3 for cleanups. The #3 works so amazing on the atg on the mustache. I hope i am able to go atg with comfort with the .58 Lupo.

😲 WOW The Lupo .58 arrived today. Thanks for the loan @kingfisher. I wasn't going to shave until tomorrow, but i couldn't wait 😁. I paired the razor with a Wilkerson sword German blade.(i am in the middle of a blade sampling pack.)Man this thing feels good in hands, very balanced. He sent it with a Ikon handle, i believe its a solid handle. I can imagine that a hollow handle would feel even better. I didn't really feel that 'blade Feel', didn't feel threatened at all!! Maybe a little in certain places, i felt a little bit of blade feel but nothing significant. Maybe its because i come from traditional straight razors and they are 'all blade' .. Man this is a smooth shaver and very efficient shaver for sure!! My face is bbs.No significant post shave Alum sting, just enough tingle to know i shaved. Zero alcohol splash AS sting!!

I did notice that the blade gave me some resistance in tougher stubble areas. It handled the atg on the upper lip with no blood, i did feel a slight resistance there, but i don't think this blade is on the sharp end of the spectrum. I heard they get sharper after the coating wears off. The slight resistance on the upper lip might be user error, and not the blades fault.. Maybe i should went at that area more leaning on the cap?? My face i cannot stop touching it it feels so good. Anyways one very little bitty nick on my chin(very small didn't bleed much) its was so small it didn't even count . Again 😲 😳!!

Has anyone else ever got a good shave and no irritation, but irration shows up the next day? Well it happened to me, the German Wilkinson must not be sharp enough?? I heard they get sharper whenever the coating wears off?? I did feel some resistance in certain areas.. I may try one more shave with the Wilkerson...

I am seriously thinking of getting on the wait-list for a Wolfman. Good thing is you can get on the list and save up money before hand. But i believe i need use this razor a bit to make sure. Thanks to a friendly gent here who is letting me use a Lupo.58 for a bit, also @Phoenixkh offered me the Lupo as well, and i appreciate the kindness from you fellas. The Lupa is a nice razor. I noticed that the blade tabs aren't exposed. I just wandered why Wolfman doesn't hide blade tabs?? Its not big deal to me, but maybe the blade tabs are exposed to help line up the blade, or so the edge of the edge shaves all the way(on the ends) across the razor head??

I will report back on my second shave with the Lupa and the German Wilkinson sword. I am not a every day shaver. Anyways if i ordered i would be torn between getting either a wr1 .54 or .61... I Wander if the Lupa is a direct dupe blade gap of the wr1 .61 or maybe its closer to .54 wr1.. At first i was thinking about getting the .48, but now after using the efficient Lupa .58 i don't think that the .48 would be efficient enough for me..I really know i would get a hollow handle. I like the Wrh1 handle but i like the looks of wrh2 knurling. I seen where you can get the wrh1 handle with the wrh2 knurling. I heard that the grip is better on the wrh1 knurling.... So does the wrh2 knurling provide a good grip or is it not textured enough?

I shaved a fortune

I can't help you with the WR1, but I have two hybrid handles.. hollow 90mm 3/7 in basic polish bronze... One has the H3 knurling... the other, the H2... The H3 is more hmmm outward... You can see it on their website.. the H2 is grooved inwards... Of the two, I prefer the H2, but that's just one man's opinion...

I agree with you on getting a hollow handle. I hold the razor towards the end and thats a good balance point for a weight forward on the head IMO.

I figured you were on the list already... it will be a good 4 months and no final decision is needed until the invoice is paid. Join the list now.

As for the knurling the H1 is the best for grip but the H2 is more fancy - never dropped the WRH2 but the knurling is less secure. Especially on a polished handle. The old brushed WRH1 handles are amazing for grip.

Does the basic polished Wrh1 effect the grip? Is it still more grippy than say wrh2 basic polished ?
