Haslinger w/ Lanolin - is it as good as The Fat?

The past few days I have been blown away by the performance of this little 60 grams puck of shave soap; Haslinger with Lanolin

proxy.php

The ingredients according to our friends at Rasierladen.de:
potassium stearate, sodium stearate, potassium tallowate, aqua, lac powder, parfum, sheep milk, arachis hypoaea, lanolin, potassium cocoate, sodium tallowate, sodium cocoate, glycerine, potassium hdroxide, sodium haydroxide, alpha-isomethyl ionone, hydroxisohexyl 3-cyclo-hexene carboxaldehyd, CI 77891

I started using this soap as a successor to the old MWF, a soap I really like and which has proven a solid performer of top quality in my den.
After a few days of use I start to think of this little Haslinger puck as at least a serious contender for MWF.

With a little water and a good badger (I used a SOC or a TGN Finest in one our own handles) this builds a quick lather easily.
The lather is slick, creamy and very protective - it also is long lasting.
I now regret not testing this soap versus MWF, as I cannot do a direct comparison.

So Haslinger and MWF experts at B&B - do you agree?
Is this anything as good or at least a serious contender for The Fat?

I have always wanted to give Haslinger a try, especially the lanolin. What is the scent like with the lanolin version?

I will have to put this on my list of soaps to try, as I was a big fan of their Ringelblumen (marigold) soap's performance. To possibly get a soap that performs like MWF, but is easier to lather would be excellent. Haslinger soaps are an absolute steal.

The scent is very delicate and refined. It has been coined 'non existent' and also 'over scented' at the Gutrasiert forum, so experiences may differ from different batches?
To me it is elegant, fresh, simply soap. It has to my untrained nose some powdery and floral accents, a clean and fresh barbershop type of scent.
If I read the ingredients correctly, there is a parfum in the soap so it is definitely not unscented.

It is very moisturizing, as I read in the description at Rasierladen: http://www.rasierladen.de/haslinger-rasierseife-schafmilch-lanolin-p-3324-2.html.
Lanolin has also been reported as an irritant, but I find this sheep milk and lanolin soap very mild and creamy.

We can't seem to get this here in the US. Does anyone know of a vendor?

I'm anxious to try this as well, I love these Austrian soaps!

I had a puck of their honig (honey). The performance was great; the scent was not IMHO. I used the puck to make a frankensoap which came out smelling like dial.

Only place I see it is on Shavemac's site. I did email Haslinger a month or so ago because a friend was traveling to Munich, and was told there were no retail outlets for Haslinger in that area.

I buy mine at Royal Shave - they have several 'flavors' - $9.95 for a puck
Right, but we're talking about the ewe's milk soap with lanolin as in the OP's picture. Maybe John at West Coast Shaving can be convinced to order some, he has all the others.

Doug,
My mistake. RoyalShave does not have the ewe's milk soap ... we should all ask John to procure some ... I would like to try it as well - I've been very happy with the Coconut, Aloe, Marigold etc.

I too have the honey. Received it free with a brush from Shavemac. I would love to try out the Ewe as well as the coconut!

If I recall correctly, the lucky lads in NYC can pick this up at Pasteurs...although that doesn't really help the rest of us

I will get it solely on the basis of that lamb on the label. I'm serious -- anything that makes me laugh out loud immediately upon seeing it deserves my money. Well that....and Haslinger is awesome stuff. :001_tt2:

I wanted to BUMP this thread to say one thing: Move over Mitchell's (Wool Fat) here comes Haslinger (Ewe's Milk)!

I picked up a couple of pucks of Haslinger Ewe's Milk soap with my latest Shavemac brush purchase. This soap has more than impressed me over the last couple of weeks. I am a big fan of Mitchell's Wool Fat soap, but even after using Mitchell's for a few years it can still be finicky to lather. Haslinger Ewe's Milk is a no brainer to whip up into a beautiful wet yogurt lather and leaves my face feeling every bit as wonderful as Mitchell's Wool Fat. I find myself unable to describe the scent of Mitchell's Wool Fat and also unable to describe the scent Haslinger Ewe's Milk - both evoke that notion of fresh and clean. I'd say, for me, it a draw in the scent category. I'll give the edge in performance to Haslinger Ewe's Milk because the lather is easier to produce, the lather rinses of my razors easier (MWF can leave some residue on my blades that needs more than water to rinse off), and I find the razor glides a bit easier too. As I stated before, both leave my face feeling like a million bucks; these two soaps and P. 160 are easily my most "face friendly" soaps. Given the desert island scenario I'd pick Haslinger Ewe's Milk over Mitchell's Wool Fat (there I said it).

So, it is about time some of our fine US shaving vendors step up to the plate and add this shaving gem to their rosters or perhaps a Haslinger Ewe's Milk shaving soap group buy is in order

Was prompted by the most recent posts to check on Ewe's Milk again. Was excited when it popped up on Amazon for about $5.95; thunderstruck when saw it was from Shavemac with an estimated $11.13 shipping!
