Gillette NEW LC & SC; Which is more common?

Rest in Peace
My experience has been that Gilette NEW short combs are more easily found than long combs. This seems to change with the times. I also don't know if any numbers are available to see which was produced in greater amounts. What is your experience/knowledge?:confused1

I've never found a short comb in the wild. I always see long combs when I find them in antique stores.

I am also curious about this. I think I have read here on B&B before that the LC is more common but am not sure.

In my experience the LC, I have two. Every one I have seen in the wild, and seems the majority on ebay have been LCs

I see mainly the Red and Black sets in the wild, which are Short combs. I've passed two up for being overpriced. $15 rukiddingme?

I have seen far more long combs in my very short stint over the past 6 months. $15 for a short comb sounds darn reasonable to me, as I paid $50ish for a polished and cleaned up short comb!

I think you got yours from Nick, neh? I sent the LC I bought at the same time, off to Krona Kruiser. It should be back tomorrow or Friday. I've been thinking about getting an SC from Nick.

I have always assumed that SCs were more common in the USA, but I have absolutely no data to support that assumption. After some experimentation, I prefer the LCs, as do most other DE shavers. So, it is logical to assume that Gillette made more LCs to meet the demand. In England, they made no SCs at all.

I thought $15 was a hell of a deal for a cased NEW SC. I'd buy a dozen of them at that price today if they were available.

I really had no clue whether the short comb or long comb NEW was more common. However, since I've been trying to track down one of every version of the NEW I can tell you the long combs seem to be everywhere, but the short combs seem to be playing hard to get. My experience lately seems to be 10-1 long combs to short, but that is not scientific at all.

I did just find one though...tonight. So, shortly I will have an American NEW LC and SC as well as a NEW Improved Standard Tuckaway. Krona Kruiser is also refurbing an English LC for me. I thought there was an English SC but that is not the case. Soon I'll be able to try all of the NEW's and then figure out which one to get refurbished in Rhodium as my keeper.

Yeah, I should have got the one I saw at that price, but I had just picked up one in much better condition for $8. Saw another one for $25 with the gold blade case. Both of these are in my normal travel range so i may go back and see if they are still there, if for no other reason to have as potential trades. I'd like to get one and plate the head in nickel to use with other handles.

Just for clarity; I'm aware of the variations (Deluxe, Goodwill, etc.) For the purpose of this thread I am asking only about the regular long comb and short comb NEWs, ball end or bar handle three piece razors.
