Leaf Twig VS Henson AL+ (My thoughts)

Beet her to it!
So I’ll try to keep it short, I can be long winded at times.

I’ve been in this hobby for a long time. Took a break for a bit but now I’m back! I needed it with how high my anxiety is!

I usually do an electric shave, and more recently a straight razor shave. I wanted a safety razor on hand for those times I need to go and don’t have time to strop.

After reading a lot, I landed on the lupo, then bounced around a bit. Kept getting facebook adds for the leaf and the Henson! They peaked my interest.

I did a lot of YouTube research lol, a lot of Reddit, and a lot of B&B. The general consensus is the Henson is made better, it the twig shaves better. So, I wen’t with the twig, (I hate pot metal razors) but figured I’d give it a go.

Placed the order on Amazon and Bobs your uncle. Upon opening the box, I was impressed. What a unique little razor! I did my first shave and I was very impressed with the stock blades it came with and over all user experience. Thought that was it for me. I did shave number 2, even better! Shave number 3 and my neck was full of red spots, and ingrown hairs! The blade is good for 2 shaves…

4th shave I popped in one of my 2016 Personna Med preps (absolutely amazing blade). And I had an incredible shave! So, that’s it right? For any normal person that would be the end of it.

I’m not normal! 😂

I had to know what the Henson was about. I’ve never used an aluminum razor! So, I placed the order. I got it in yesterday but I was not able to use it until tonight. The build quality is absolutely tops, I like lighter razors and this was right there with my old Gillette New LC. My first shave with it (NACET blade), I read good things about that blade so I made an order along with the Henson. I have to tell you fellas… I had 4 day growth, it was thick, and just nasty. I was able to feel it working, unlike the leaf, the leaf I can’t feel it but I know it’s working. The Henson I can feel it, and hear it. The aluminum seems to sing! It was possibly the best shave I’ve ever had. I never knew what BBS was until this. I mean it!! I thought I did, but I was wrong! When I used the alum block, I had zero sting, zero redness, as I type this I don’t feel my skin burning or that raw feeling, like a sun burn. I can rub my skin any direction and I don’t feel any stubbles. I’m so impressed. The leaf twig is very nice… but it’s going back. The Henson (for me) is just tops!

Also, I don’t have to clean it after every use. I just wiped it on the towel and shook it. lol. I already bought the stand for it! I see no reason for the ++ but that’s just me.

Over all, the twig would have been just fine. For me though, the Henson is on another level. The quality to price ratio is outstanding.

As they say YMMV. I tried all 3 Henson, the +, ++, and the +++. I did not care for them. The + and the ++ were too mild for me. With the +++, it needed to find the right angle and I just had no patients for it.
I have a Leaf Thorn and I love it. It shaves smooth and close. A BBS everytime.

I mean… I only tried the Twig… you say I must try the thorn?! Well… if you’re going to twist my arm about it, guess I have to! :)

Nice! I debated (at least I have gotten to debating myself, used to be I just pulled the trigger) the Leaf multiblade, as well as their single blade, but held off for several reasons. Went all in on a Henson and have been very happy with it.

I also have tried both the Twig and Henson mild (first edition). Also have a Thorn. For me, a sharp blade and the Twig was a better performer than the other two. I'm glad that both companies are making these razors!

The Henson AL13+ is dynamite.

The Twig is tempting, but no holiday amzn discounts on the Berry Blue one, so the makers obviously avoided arm-twisting school.

The Leaf is such a cool little razor. Very different, and I’ll miss it. The Henson just blew me away.. I mean just wow. I never knew what BBS could be! lol 😂 I’ll give it a few more shaves just to be sure

I've only been shaving about 5 weeks (so take my thought with a very small grain of salt) and have tried the Henson AS13 mild and the Leaf Twig...I agree with this! Both the AL13 and the Twig were nice and mild, as well as easy to use, but the Twig was a lot more effective at taking off the hair, the weight felt better in the hand, and something about that small head makes it a joy to use! And it's currently about half the price of the Henson (BF sale: $45 vs $80)!
