Thinking about buying one of these to replace a broken DE 89l. Suggestions? Anyone have the ivory hex? If so, does the hex make it more grippy than the smooth I ivory version?
I don't have the ivory hex, but I do have a barley. It is a significant improvement for grip than the lined, however it's still not as grippy as some. If you like the 89 head and want a more aggressive knurling pattern, I'd look at the Muhle R89. Identical shave with better grip than the Jagger. I must say though, that barley pattern is pretty.
I have the ebony handle for the EJ and don't find it slippery at all. I do love how the barley handle looks and currently looking to see if I can obtain a handle for sale.
the barley is kind of slippery because it's not really knurled, it's either cast or rolled in lightly. regardless, the "tips" of the pattern are flat not pointed so there's a bit of slip to it - just like worn knurling. that said, it's not _that_ slippery and my fix for that is a little rub of the fingers on my alum block.
