Help with 2 Thater brushes

I've picked up two Thater brushes that I cannot identify (now might not really be a Thater).

Both are in shapes I have not seen in the Thater line before. The first (black) does not feel "Thater-ish" in the handle or knot. The bottom construction looks unfinished as well, but I am not a Thater expert. The second one is ivory and feels very much "Thater-ish" in the handle and the knot. The knot is more dense than any other Thater I have. I cannot find anything about the "SRP 2011" on the bottom.

SRP will be the forum Straight Razor Place (if I remember correctly) and likely their forum specific brush for 2011.

The black one looks like it's missing the "coin" that they later started using. It looks like a fake brush to me. From the printing to the knot shape/quality. I don't recall any Thater brushes that looked like that.

The SRP knot looks like a typical Thater Bulb.

I have the SRP brush and it is a very good brush. Yes indeed, it was a brush made for Straight Razor Place and the choice was the knot shape, mine is a fan. No clue about the black one, but as my Canadian friend said, it misses the coin they put into the base. From the looks of it I believe it is a lower grade badger. Thaeter made very nice brushes, and I have a few of their three band silvertips and this SRP brush. Too bad they closed down, one of the good old companies....

I think we all agree that the black one is fake. It was my thought as well, but I wanted to be sure. I'll make it as such and relegate it to cleaning duties. Thanks all
