What's new

Wrong handle, Wrong box, Wrong head

I was cruising the bay the other day and came across this razor that had only a bid or two on it and decided to give it a closer look. When I opened the pictures I noticed that it was in the wrong case, with the wrong handle and had a head I recognized as being called rare from Mr-razors site. Now that I look at the pictures the bottom plate with the teeth doesn't look like it fits the Gillette type either, its rather crude and rounded. So I guess I can start with is this just a standard single ring box or a double ring box? And is there a for sure way to tell? And was this style head put on any other razors other than the 1909 pocket edition?

Thanks Alex. I'm not firing on all cylinders today. I didnt look at my double ring when I got home last night, but I checked an old post of when I first got my double ring and low and behold same box. Now I need another double ring:biggrin1:

I was watching that lot, too, for the same reasons that caught your eye. It was a complete grab bag of mixed parts. The box could have originally contained either a Double Ring or an early Single Ring. They were using those across the time that they changed over to Single Rings. The handle is from a NEW.

It's possible that the blade case and the head went together originally, but that head would have obviously only come in a Pocket Edition set originally. I'm only aware of those engraved heads from right around the time that the diamond logo started being used, but I don't think we know anything about them for certain. Once you get it be sure to come back and update us with the serial number.

If you're willing to part with that box, I have a lovely double ring that is missing a proper bed!

I think I'm going to hold on to it for now in hopes of finding another double ring, but If I decide to get rid of it I will surely offer it to a fellow B&B member first.
