Why I'm not grilling tonight

proxy.php

Between this and the pulled pork and hush puppies, the neighbors here are begining to suspect that I'm not a pure Yankee...

I give what is it?

Pulled pork. Yum... Honestly, I had never seen it on a BBQ joint's menu before about 10-15 years ago in the D/FW area. Can't remember the name of the place, it was on Lemmon Ave. almost to Turtle Creek. I don't even know if it is still there. I think it originated from somewhere in the SE. It definitely wasn't "traditional" Texas BBQ.

LOL, it IS hard to see, but that is a cut-up chicken frying in the skillet. The two drumsticks are up top, thighs in the middle and two monster breasts at six o'clock.

Buttermilk soak overnight, spiced, dredged and fried. I don't do it too often, but every once in awhile I get the craving for real fried chicken. :w00t:

I love fried chicken :tongue_sm:tongue_sm

I think that I'm going to have to fry up a batch in the next week or two. Maybe with some mac and cheese.

Aha! Now that you point it out, yes I see it. Sounds delicious! I also love fried chicken, but more often than not, I get the Saladmaster version of no oil, batter, etc. Very tasty, but just not the same.

Thanks to y'all, I'm remembering my grandmother's fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, collard greens and cornbread.

The no skin, fried in olive oil with a little curry powder I had for lunch now seems like a shower while wearing a raincoat compared to that memory. I was there in the water, but it just wasn't the same.

This article shows another great reason to use an iron skillet: Steakhouse Steak at Home

I still grill steaks sometimes, especially if it's hot and I don't want to heat up my kitchen. But since I started doing this, I make mosts of my steaks in my kitchen.
