What's new

What's on your work bench right now?

Sometimes, I get away from razors to play with other sharp things.
For a change of pace, I made a custom handle for this Camillus USN Mk II. The materials are G-Wood with a slab of G-10 in the center; hidden tang, epoxy seal runs up through the guard, pins are 1/4" brass.

Keith that looks beautiful!!!
wish we could have those knifes, but sadly we are only allowed a 3inch blade pocket knife....

Progress, and decisions to make! Double pin on tail? Single pin on tail? Fancy shmancy hardware? Plain Jane brass washers?

The last picture looks good have you got a smaller one for the pivot.
That's the problem I do not, at least not the same design I need to search hobby lobby for some antique brass they may have some...I don't know what I'm gonna do as of yet.. No rush though if I find Nickle silver rods there I may just go that route all together.

Just finished this one a Dixie Blue Steel, yes I know I'm digging deep into my pile of restores and might have to look for more to fill my box back up.
Anyhows onto the pics

All I did was strip down a good sanding of the blade, and a light sanding of the scales on the inside then a good clean and a polish......

With good results...

Bob we dont steal but we borrow the ideas, to make it better with adding our own to it. Plus we share it freely hoping somebody does copy....:001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2:
Dan that has come out beautiful that is a fantastic restore.....:001_tt1::001_tt1::001_tt1::001_tt1::001_tt1:

My version goes like this..."Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

Thank you Sir!!!

Its just a labour of love doing the restores, plus it gives me something to do.

Still need to wipe the scales with Acetone, the CA finish did some weird things but I'll iron it out. Next tape spine, set bevel, and take her through the full progression of film from 12um-.3um.

Thanks to Ian for the point in the right direction on the NS pins and washers also forgot to say the spacer is Bubinga.

How many coats of CA did you put on, and a light sanding in between coats is good but try very fine wet and dry sandpaper with water. Then polish that should bring a shine, but I do 12 coats of CA to get a deep finish.....
