What's new

What a great day less the bbs shave....

So today my shave was not BBS even though it usually is.... But it didnt bother me not one bit. you see the reason why i didnt get a baby but smooth shave is because my 12 year old cousin who just got back to the united states for the summer was being very inquisitive. He would ask me questions about the cream. He would ask about the razors, he really liked my parker 22r and my others because most of them are tto's and he thought they were cool when the gates opened on them. He would ask about the brush it was and art of shaving pure badger that came with the starter kit. So as we stood in the bath room he left and brought me the derby lavender cream, which i can make good lather with it just doesnt smell like real lavender. I told him i was using soap. he said soap? So i taught him about the soap and how to lather with it and what the difference between soap and cream was. He was enjoying every minute he spent with his 21 year old cousin in the bathroom watching me build lather with mamabear soap and shaving with a red tip gillette. I lather my face for my first pass and he then takes my brush and begins to mop his face. I stop in the middle of my shave and start to teach him how to apply lather in circular motions. I then continue a 2 pass shave today. I stop and i clean everything up and put on pinaud Clubman. He turns and says whats that you just put on i tell him its aftershave. He said it smells good. That is amazing a 12 year old who is in love with pinaud.

I go get my bowl back out of my room and bring my parker with me. I then opened the derby showed him where to hold it at the end and told him to start squeezing and when to stop. He squeezed out a almond size amount. He then got the brush that was soaking and gave it a squeeze and a little shake. I told him to squeeze it gently and he did because he at first had a little to much water and i was able to notice it right away. I added a very minute amount of cream to fix my mistake and he began to whip his lather. A few minutes later and he had a great looking lather and plenty of it.I tell him to lather and he does I then suprise him with the blade-less parker and tell him now its time to shave. You should have seen the smile on his face as he asked me really? . I said yes really but without the blade or your mother will kill me. Smiling ear to ear he started on his cheek and made his first pass. I said it was good but your angle is off i move the razor to a 30 degree and he begans to whisk the cream off his face. He again goes back to a 90 degree almost and i notice his grip. so i help him hold it. I tell him to hold it lower on the handle and to lock his wrist at the 30 degree angle and to apply no pressure you dont want to cut yourself.. he giggled and began to shave without a blade amazingly. Afterwards i had him rinse his face with cold water and handed him the pinaud and he applied it to his skin. Then he looked at me and said Christopher this stuff burns, why? So i explain to him whats in it. He ask what is it for so i teach him what its for. All in all i have to say this is a memory i will treasure for the rest of my life. I cant wait to teach my son one day how to shave. Maybe in a year or two i can teach my cousin to De. He showed a real big interest mainly because it was different from what the rest of my family does and it looks more fun. He already has enough facial hair to shave now but i dont want him to be shaving at 12 and his mom and dad doesnt either.

Thanks for allowing us to sit in on such a wonderful experience. Not only do you have a memory to last a lifetime, but your little cousin does, too.

Well done. I salute you!:thumbup1:

Thanks for the post. I don't believe my dad ever taught me to shave and I didn't teach either of my sons. I guess we figured the razor would be an adequate and quick teacher.

Your cousin will likely remember this lesson fondly the first time he shaves. Make a note to send him a beginner's kit when he is fifteen or sixteen years old. Maybe he will avoid the years of disposables and multi-blades we endured for so many years.

The girls will love the way he smells.

Good job.

Great story! Another face saved from the ravages of poor shaving.

Although not as vividly, I think he'll remember that day forever as well.:thumbup1:
