Vintage Yardley

I found a bowl of Yardley SS last fall and I decided to use it today.

Bowl is in decent shape

Very faint scent left in the puck, but it made a decent lather that was very slick and provided a good cushion for today's str8 shave. It performed as well as Tabac, but not quite as well as DR Harris. Maybe it will improve as I get into the deeper layers.

Tomorrow I break out the vintage Old Spice puck and mug.

I tried my NOS Yardley stick and I feel somewhat similarly to you. It didn't amaze me like it did everyone else. I'm hoping it gets better soon

you must be doing something wrong. Or you're not suggestible - or you are not susceptible to placebos.

My yardley soaps - bowl & shave stick - are the best soaps I've ever used.

Really.

Seriously.

I mean it.

Honest.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Yard vs. OS. Old spice pucks have doubled in price on eBay in the past 3 weeks (Mug + puck just ended for over $40 shipped). If this keeps up, soon it will be as expensive as Yardley.

Coincidentally, I shaved with OS yesterday and Yardley this morning. IMO, although both worked quite well, Yardley is superior to OS in terms of developing a slick lather in a hurry. I prefer the OS scent; however, it could be that the OS was stored in a better environment for the past 20 years!

If the new pricing your report holds, I may be able to fund my retirement solely with the 40 - 50 NOS pucks of OS I've accumulated over the years!

You could likely fund your retirement with that Old Spice spice rack you have too :001_wub:

How many of those do you think there are in existence? I've never seen another one (and I've looked for them :tongue_sm)... sorry Harry

Yes, Harry - my apologies also. Thank goodness, hijacking a thread isn't yet a Federal offense !

Paul, there's at least one other. Creighton Fricek (cr8on.com) owns it - or he did own it a few years ago. My guess is that they were made up by Shulton as a spiff for their salesmen, so there may have been several handed out. And, probably, when the salemen's kids were cleaning out Mom and Dad's houses after the funeral, the observaton was made, "Naw, Goodwill wouldn't take this stupid thing - just throw it in the trash!"

That is nice.

If you really want one, a skilled carpenter could easily craft you a forgery I'm sure.

Sorry, I meant "replica"

;)

I've managed to pick up two pucks by snagging used ones with less than stellar pictures. But even at $20 a puck, the new pucks were too pricey for me. At $36.XX + shipping? Way too pricy IMHO. Colgate pucks seem to still be ~$10 at best... are they inferior to O/S? I've not gotten a chance to try one.

One of my near by antique stores has a puck of old looking Colgate, (no bar code). I keep telling myself I should pick it up, along with another vintage Williams puck they have. Although, at $3.50 each, that's a lot more than I paid for my last two pucks of Old Spice.. mugs included:001_tt2:
