Trying AV for the first and last time

Well, I finally broke down and bought some AV, as I was wanted something cooling for the summer. I love the way AV feels, but I do not like the smell. And my wife hates the smell! I think she has placed some kind of ban on me from using before I kiss her. Anyhow, it will be my workday morning splash before I head to work. I'll use it every morning, and it won't last long that way.

What other menthol classics have you tried? Skin Bracer, Barbasol Pacific Rush, Brut, Proraso?

Barbasol Pacific Rush has a pretty neutral, and not hugely overpowering smell.

AV Ice Sport is very nice and Orignal Sport is acceptable scent wise. My wife can't stand Ice Blue and I'm defintely not a huge fan. It reminds us of those pine tree air fresheners people hang on their rearview mirrors in their car. In my opinion, it's probably the worst smelling AS I have ever come across. One thing about AV, it works great!

AV Ice Blue is a classic scent sorry the wife hates it. Mine loves it.

I really like the AV Ice Blue and my wife likes the smell. You might want to try AV Musk, that had a nice scent and I was planning on trying it after I was done with the Ice Blue.

Just kidding, I've got too much AV as it is. I don't mind the old man smell of AV, but I know the GF wishes I smelled more my age (23)

Then again once the scent wears off I can use EDT and she'll never know.

I didn't like the smell at first - but now i can't imagine not using it. And since I shave in the evenings I don't have to worry about over-applying

Skin Bracer and Brut are out, as I don't like their scents, either. I think I will give the Pacific Rush a try next. My wife told me this morning that she would pay me to stop wearing it. So, I may give the PR a try sooner rather than later. Proraso would have to be ordered, I don't know of anyone around here that carries it.

Ice Sport reminds me of candy. I haven't seen any of the Original Sport.

I don't know about Aqua Velva but Proraso is very good to cool your face. I didn't try Osage Rub yet but it smells a bit like Camphor... If you want something milder than Proraso with a menthol kick (more difficult to get), Vintage, the Japanese Aftershave. It smells nice, it's light.

My girlfriend and I both hate the old smell of Aqua Velva. I like Barbasol Pacific Rush, which just smells kind of minty if anything at all, and the menthol kick is pretty strong.

I have respect for the AV. I'm here/there on the scent. Not great, not bad. Another good, cheap, menthol AS is Adidas Dynamic Pulse. Not as chilly, but a scent more like a stronger Proraso.

I can see why your girl would not like it. It is definitely a 100% old man scent. I still use it along with Proraso shave cream for those days I demand a chilly shave, but I dread how the scent of AV lingers over my expensive cologne with it's old man cheapness.

Funny thing is that I have some vintage (50's) AV in the fishing reel bottle decanter and it actually smells lighter than today's AV. This actually makes it better IMHO, but I still like AV either way.

I do have the Dynamic Pulse. Since it is far stronger, it doesn't make a good work day splash for some reason. I do like it though, and so does the wife. But, I am also wanting something with more chill.

Haha. I don't like it much either. It feels sticky in my hands and smells very sweet, like a bubblegum soda pop.
