Wife’s Zomchi Razor threads broke

IMG_0792.jpegIMG_0795.jpegIMG_0796.jpeg

I got my wife a Zomchi razor last year when I started my DE journey and she’s been using it ever since. She prefers it from the cartridge style we were both using, so I was pretty excited about that. I have amassed some razors (RAD) and supplies yet she just goes on using the same razor and blade pretty much until I change it out. Well her razor dropped in the sink and the threads broke. I suppose it’s time to get her an upgrade but she’s funny and doesn’t even care what it is. I’ll probably give her my KCG razor I don’t use much anymore…maybe “she’ll want” the Blackbird Titanium next — hmmm 🤔🤣

Cool and slimy
I have the very same one!

It is a bit like a R89/DE89, I personally find Merkur-style razors milder and better, the King C. Gillette razor is closer to the characteristics of the Zomchi here.

What happened when I offered my wife to make her choice of the whole stainless/titanium/aluminum/brass collection, the picked a Baili clone, but even a particularly inefficient TTO, as her favorite. She liked the handle, okay, the handle was neat, but...

... I am still shocked.

You could gift her the upcoming Merkur 34c clone from Razorock. That one should not break, while being very popular with almost every shaver.

Interesting is that your thread broke in the center, mine always broke away under the cap.

Zinc alloy will sometimes do that. It's too bad because the Zomchi has a nice purple finish. I bought my wife a Leaf Twig in a similar color. Hers is ok, but a lot of people report them breaking when dropped, too.

That's funny, my wife never changes her own blade, either.

KCG is a good one for someone like that who just wants something functional. You could put a gripper handle on it if she thinks it's slippery.

Buy her a Henson...

@helicopter That is funny how she doesn't change her blade. I noticed the same blade on my wife's razor for a couple weeks and was like ughhh you can change them out more often I have plenty and it's not like the expensive catridges. Maybe our wives are trying to go for the one blade per year club and we don't even realize it! Good idea about swapping the grip.

@ButterfaceX I was debating giving her a Henson but she likes the purple stand and the KCG fits in the Zomchi stand perfectly. See how she likes the KCG and if she doesn't then I could give her a Henson or Twig. I like both of them and have a spare, different color, of each.

That's too bad....what a cool looking razor. I've never seen one of those before....cool color. Hopefully she'll like one of your razors....or what the heck, get her the Ti Blackbird and borrow it from time to time...:biggrin1:

My exploding razor knows secrets
I picked a Merkur 42C for my wife, and she also doesn't care about the blade inside, so replacing the blade is my job.

But I think she deserves better, so I have reserved the Razorock mamba + radio knob handle and wait for the day when she breaks the 42C.

It’s so frustrating, because I regularly maintain, clean and oil her razor…the 42C is still intact until now. Maybe I should be more casual.

I got a few Zomchi razors as part of an eBay lot. They shave all right for a cheap razor. The ones I got were part of a lot from airport security. They were thrown around a bit but all the Zomchi are fully functional. As stated above, it happens with Zinc Alloy. I try to go easy on the handle when I secure the blade. I make sure that nothing moves but I don't over-tighten it.

When I received my RazoRock game changer, the handle was tightened quite a lot. At least double compared to what I would do. If you want something durable, look at a stainless steel razor. The Henson would also be good (I received one in the same lot and I like it a lot). It depends on your budget, of course.

I got the Dragon a Ladies Wilkinson Sword rose gold Intuition but she prefers a Yaqi Flipside CC/OC combi head - that's why we have a few between us.

So I reached out to Zomchi and even though I bought it about a year ago, they have a 5 year warranty so they are sending me a new replacement razor! That was pretty decent of them…I still think she needs the Ti Blackbird though 🤣

Great customer service!!

And she still deserves the Blackbird!! :a29: :a29:

@roaduck love the setup and the green! Have you seen the Karve Bison in green? I pulled the trigger on that when I saw it.

Oh Wow Jaybyrd - that's lovely - that's right up my street - thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Boti Meteorite 2 Titanium.jpg

I was going to get this one first but now it has been relegated to second place.

Boti - Meteorite 2 - Titanium

It's a Boti Meteorite 2 - they also do a feather design and come in double edge or single edge versions - They are all titanium and come with a matching Ti base.

My wife uses a Henson. I also have to change the blade.
It must be a female thing. My wife uses an Old Type clone she got from her Grandfather's home. The open comb is too aggressive for my taste. I will swap out blades and the hair residue is pretty bad. I don't think she ever rinses the razor after each use.

"Rinsing - Why do I have to do that?" LOL !
